Guitar Problems
I have a problem. My volume pot is kinda busted, cos when i twist it the sound goes away and it leaves just silence. My friend (and my dad) says that you can use something called ''contact spray'' that will do the trick. Is this true or should i do something else? Please help.
BTW if this kinda thread already exists, you can delete this thread.

contact spray is what u could use on ..for example.. the knobs on an amp, it they make a crunchy sound when you twist them, wich is usualy when the pot is rusted or oxidated inside.
dunno if it'll help in your case

The pot may have to simply be replaced if it's too far gone. Try the contact cleaner (not WD40 or any other kind of lubricant, it has to be contact cleaner) and if it doens't help then take it to a tech and have them replace the pot, if you're not a soldering genius yourself. Might be problem if you need it by Thursday...

well my guitar's (shitty epiphone les paul) 3 way toggle dies about every couple of minutes (assuming how i long i play in the mode its in) and once i change it my guitar sounds like a sort of distorted acoustic. so since i get pissed by then i make matters worst and just toggle the shit out of it till it works, that can be really fun trying to imitate blast beats with the toggle, I GET 16THS GOIN 300 BPM ON THAT TOGGLE.

I took mine in to get the same replaced and the guy actually asked me if I tried dripping a few drops of lighter fluid down the post.... to clean it.
I said no that I never heard of that and he said it's common......
eh?

I guess it probably would be, its the same deal with the volume pots and shit.
Old ones get clogged with bollocks, if you can take the knob off of and give the pot it a good clean with IPA.
Its wat a tech did to mine

I noticed that sometimes when i play a note on the 4th string (forgot which one) the trem springs vibrate giving out unwanted noise. What shall i do? fill up the trem cavity with cotton like Vai?

if you are going to replace your pots just keep in mind you might have to do some drilling...when I installed new pots on my jackson I had to increase the radius of the whole with a drill...talk about fucking scary....just do some practice on some shit board before hand and keep and slow steady pace...
If you aren't going to instlal new pots just try rewiring it...unsolder the old wire...cut it, rewind with other wires...solder. that has helped me a few times
