Man, was I wrong.
Entombed has continuously grown on me since the four entire years ago that was written. They have been around forever, and play a peculiarly mature brand of death metal that seems to get more interesting as I get older.
They're not vastly technical, so all you diminished 5th-fagmo-720BPM-shreddists can forget about hearing the frets come off. They play fairly straightforward death metal, but what sets them apart is their songwriting. Many death metal bands can't write a song to save their fucking lives. Entombed have the happy knack of making lyrics fit a riff and riffs fit a song. They don't overuse any of the conventions that the brutal-beyond-brutal bands do, and as a consequence their music retains the right kind of atmosphere and never descends into gratuitous stupidity.
So, an Entombed thread.

Yes. According to a recent study performed here at the UofC, Entombed rule. Compelling riffs and Satanic lyrics that aren't batshit stupid help make them one of my go-to bands when I need a break from the weirder shit I listen to. It doesn't seem like it should be hard to just straight-up rip it, but since very few bands manage it I have to assume that's the case. Entombed, in my experience, are one of those bands.

Entombed is a band that I've like for quite some time now, but they always seem to lost amongst my playlist. They're a great straight-forward, solid band that shows that it's not necessary to be extremely technical to be good. In fact, now that you've reminded me, I'm going to put them on.

Entombed have some great lyrics and badass riffs.... Stranger Aeons, Wolverine Blues and Chief Rebel Angel are some of their best songs, I think...

i don't like the new albums at all, morning star /inferno etc. but clandestine and left hand path are awesome. i prefer dismember when it comes to later swedish death metal. they just released a new one (or maybe not, but it leaked) that rules

No question, Entombed is one of my favourites. I love their buzzsaw guitar distortion on the clandestine album. I remember taping the video stranger aeons way back when and watching it like 20 times in a row. i've tried playing some songs from them but i don't like tuning lower than D so that's kinda out the window. they had a different singer a couple of times right?
the cursing in the song 'out of hand' is hilarious. the guy is really pissed off!!!
best quote off of the w.b. album " wake up you little shit, we've got company!"
ps i own left hand path, clandestine, w.b. the later stuff is on my wish list.

The only album I ever cared for was Clandestine. That album was fucking superb, but the rest of the albums from what I've heard suck.

I liked Clandestine better that Left Hand Path, but overall I enjoy most all of Entombed's stuff. Straightforward, heavy, and good without being ubertechnical.

Title track = one thoroughly awesome song. One of my "Invade-small-foreign-countries-to-a-soundtrack" songs.

Entombed is a very underratted band IMO. I agree with you when you said thier sound gets more interesting to you as you get older, the same holds true for me.Ive gotten every album since Clandestine and enjoy everyone.
I dig thier unique sound, and like how they just get down to jammin some loud, heavy metal. Its okay to just rock out, its a shame more bands dont do it.
Entombed is some quality music indeed.

Like PST said, though maybe for completely different reasons, Entombed, is just one band I can always relie to make my neck sore and ache...in fact, that sounds like a good idea....

OK, so I realised I actually own an Entombed record (Uprising) and was wondering what their earlier output sounds like. I hear them often described as "death 'n' roll" and I'd say that was an accurate description of Uprising. I also see them ascribed the death metal tag, particularly in their early career. So, can anybody give some descriptions and reasonable comparisons, with other bands, of Entombed's records prior to Uprising.
Many thanks, cunts.

I got into Entombed in the very beginning. Left Hand Path and Clandestine are both solid straight forward death metal albums. I was disappointed as hell with Wolverine Blues when it came out. That's when they drastically changed their style. About a year or two ago I heard Inferno and I love that fucking album. It got me back into them immediately. Their stuff these days is fairly simple, but that's what sets them apart from all the rest. Plus they just write good ass kicking music.

I lost count of how many times in the 90's I saw this band, they must have got every support slot going!!
Clandestine and Left Hand Path are the albums for me, Wolverine Blues disappointed me but some of their latter works have interested me again. I hear the new album is going 'back to their roots' to coin a cliche oft spouted!

Thanks, guys - looks like I'll have to procure Left Hand Path and Clandestine in the not so distant future. Cheers!

Awful? Are you listening to too much Necrophagist, or Spawn of Possession? The chainsaw tone is SUPREME.

Speaking of Entombed, why is there so little tab for them on this site? This is something I've been bitching about in Tab Request numerous times and never see any results. There isn't anything from Clandestine and only 2 from Left Hand Path. Later stuff is sparse. (No Inferno)
If I wasn't such a shitty guitar player I'd tab them all myself. Seeing as most people would like to have tab that actually sounds like the fucking song, maybe someone else should do it. Any takers?
I was just listening to Crawl on Clandestine. Goddamn that's a good song.
