WRITERS BLOCK
Ive been sitting with my guitar for a good few hours and when normally I can write riffs and solos, my brain just isnt working with me anymore. I either find myself playing random notes that just sound like shit . I need a sorce of inspiration to make me want to play somehting cool again, could anyone help re-inspire me?

That is where its at man, The best shit Ive written has come to me just improvising, and my fingers do all the work. Listen to some music for inspiration as well before hand, and maby try writing to a metronome/drum machine, that helps sometimes.

Trey Azagthoth describes his writing procedure as "playing the spaces in between thoughts". Couldn't have said it better. If you're constantly thinking "Ok, I have my guitar in front of me, now I need to play a riff" then that's way too focused and it probably wont yield anything good.

I say look to theory.. It has many guidelines on composition. I personally love medium length tremolo riffs followed by some staccato dischords. So basically look to theory, and maybe even other forms of music.

Yeah, I'd tend to agree with this. I produce decent stuff when I'm not focused on actually producing decent stuff.

I knew someone was going to say this ... make sure you know what you're doing if you take this route. Smoking marijuana makes my writing while sober a little different, as opposed to literally writing while being blasted ( I'm in no condition to do ANYTHING while stoned ). Find what works for you!
Listen to music intently. Make a hard effort to decipher everything that's going on. That's another thing that helps for me.
