Am I the only one that has heard this? (IBANEZ EMG Models?)
I've gotten word that Ibanez is coming out with two EMG Rg models, an RG with EMG 81s and an RG with EMG- Hz's
Has anyone else heard of this?
Its not on Ibanez's website for sure.
Just wondering...From what I heard the RG EMG 81 model would be around 400 dollars, which is fucking sweet but 400 dollars makes me wonder about the quality of the guitar...

Interesting. but yeah... maybe an odd move for a company that stopped putting brand pickups in their guitars in favour of their own.
I put EMGs in my RG and it made a great difference.

theres three stock ibanez's that come with emgs and are currently available (that i know of). theres this black 6 string rg with a neck through and an edge pro II bridge, it comes with an 81/85 set. i cant remember the name. i think its only available in japan. theres a 7 string version of that guitar, its black, but it has a bold on 5 piece maple/walnut neck and a fixed bridge. it comes with 2 emg 707's. that is also only available in japan. and finally, theres the mick sig which has 81/60 pickups.
there were a few usa made ibanez's with emgs but theyre only available through private sales or auctions now as they arent made anymore.
i've heard rumours of a guitar centre exclucive ibanez with emg-hz's but i've yet to see any pictures of them.

Why not just buy a RG & put the 707's in yourself?

Because you have to get the pickup cavities routed, to fit the 707s. And that looks crap. The width of the 707s doesn't extend beyond the routing for the original pickup feet, so they stick of the side.
It'd really just be nice to have a guitar with all the hardware on it the way you wanted, when you bought it...
Here is my 6 strign with EMGs
RGT 42 w/ 2x EMG 81

I saw a new rg32XQDM, fixed bridge with pickups that said "designed by emg". It played pretty nice. The pickups were passive, so they were probably some variation of the hz pickups.

I played an ibanez just yesterday with pickups designed by EMG but not sure if they were 81's or anything like that. It was a Black ibanez RG with a white outlining around the body. No Floyd though, I don't think, dot inlays, and thats about all i remember

well i was finally bothered enough to find the website with the ibanez's with stock emg actives.
6 String With EMG 81/EMG 85 7 String With EMG 707's
theyre from the official japanese ibanez website...i didnt have to look too hard
i think theyre nice, only bad thing is that the 6 string has a painted neck...eww!

i assume its because they dont make a 7 string version of the edge pro II bridge, and because they werent prepared to put edge pro 7 on it, they just used a fixed bridge.
seems like a plausible explanation to me
j-customs are available in the uk and i think australia aswell, so theyre not japan only, where as the extreme series with emgs are only avvailable in japan. i assume that theyre about 1-2 years old as they have the edge pro II bridge. they stoped making them after they got sued by floyd rose.

Yeah, I've since found J-Customs on a UK site, but not the model I was looking for... but I knew damn well I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway so I didn't bother contacting them to see how easy it was for them to get hold of one. I'll just drool until I'm rich

The EMG-HZ's are shit. Don't waste your time on that crap. I've got an 81 in mine and it rocks. But don't listen to me cuz I'm just a noob.
Some idiot I know rigs his EMGs to have TWO 9-volt batteries in them. He thinks that it "doubles the output and makes it much more crunchier!" but he's just a moron. It wouldn't change anything but the time he has to wait to put a new battery in.
