String question.

Hi there bass players, whats with the (fiber) string on the end of your (bass) strings? This confuses me greatly.

mine don't, i always thought they were just for ease, as its easier to wind fiber than bass strings...

Its because the material the strings are wound with is much thicker, it needs binding to hold it all in place, otherwise you'd get the string unravelling from the end. Because the strings are so thick they need to taper down to a sensible size for the tuning peg, so the binding holds it together

yeah but my strings don't have fiber, they're just bass string but unwound slowly...
