It's the same way here. For every one you hear something bad about, there's a bunch more that are some of the most awesome people you'll ever meet. I had one come to my house after my old b/f on a possible domestic and even the other 2 cops with him looked shakey about how he was handling the situation. I was ready to throw him off the property. He later got convicted of domestic violence and raping his wife. Yeah, American cops can be pretty fucked up, especially in mid-size towns in the south, like mine. A co-worker of mine who lives in a low-income district saw two cops basically tackle a bystander and they shoved a plastic baggie in his back pocket. My favourite incident was when an all ages venue was shut down for exceeding a person-capacity limit .... that did not exist. The owner was told by the city that he did'nt have to get one for X number of days, and they sent SEVENTEEN squad cars to contain the horrible threat of about 50 or so high school sophomores. The cops told the kids that they HAD to leave the premises. Well, over half of them did'nt have cars, so they had to wait for rides/call their parents. The police somehow took this as their cue to disperse the crowd using bean bag rifles and mace. The person who gave me a ride there sat in his truck, and camcorded the entire event. Even after he decided to go public with it, the chief of police issued a public statement : "There were no riot weapons of any sort, or mace used, bla bla bla bla ... " I'm assuming that the chief of police has to wheelbarrow his testicles around, considering how one girl was hospitalized for getting maced ( its hard to breathe with that stuff, you know ).


Ironically, everyone's attitude here towards drug law is "If I can be jailed for doing nothing, why obey the law at all!?"

I used to date a girl whose uncle was head of narcotics back home. Interesting what he could get done. I was mildly scared to break up with her. It is one thing if a school principle or a church minister abuses their authority. Its quite another when someone with a nightstick does.

The other day at Walgreens at 3 in the morning, I checked out a police officer who had just been shot at ( but thankfully not injured ). He was complaining that he gets paid about 8 dollars an hour to be called a pig, fuzz, whatever else you can think of, protects people who will never know it, risks his life in firefights, only to be bitched out at the station because he did'nt bring in enough arrests. If the police force would actually make a cop's job worthwhile, then maybe my city would be in better condition as a collective whole. But then that's another matter entirely we can argue.

Speaking of my job, I hate the 65-year old cashier who behaves exactly like a manager, and who refuses to relieve me of the register until I have cleaned the entire area to her, not the manager's, satisfaction. Which does'nt help that she normally gets there about 5 minutes after my shift is supposed to end.
