Dampening

What does the dampening feature on my amp do? It says I can switch between tight, medium, or loose. What does it do to my tone? Will it vary the tone widely? Thanks

Dampening, I would have thought would act like a physical string dampener and somehow cut off the wave lengths of notes that are sustained. Useful for shred. Just think of it like tying a rag around 1st fret i guess.

I could be wrong but this would all make sense.

So loose damping or whatnot will have more sustain?

it doesnt really adjust your sustain. it changes the voicing of the amp. similar to how rectifier settings on a mesa recto affects your tone. on the tight setting, the voicing of the amp is tighter(like the diode rectifiers) with the medium and loose settings, you start getting more sag and boom to the tone(like tube rectifiers). some may like, some do not. so they let you choose.

it alters the frequencys fed intoyour speakers.

if you have your setting on tight you will get a realy nice saturated paml muting sound and tighter distorion
