from beginner to expert...
I have a question, is it possible to make a list of songs with the least difficult bass lines to the most difficult? I understand this is subjective, but it would really help me because I often find myself learning songs that are way to easy, or too difficult for my level.
Anyway, this is my first post, so i'll discribe myself a little. I listen to death/black/trash metal. I primarily play bass and only play guitar for writing songs. I've been playing bass for 3 years and guitar for 5, so im still quite noobish. Right now im busy polishing up anesthesia for a school preformance. I play on a really shitty b.c. rich platinum warlock(eww) and a 100 watt yorkville amp. I also have a boss obd-3 distortion pedal. As soon as I get the money, I shall acquire a warwick neck-through thumb bass. So um ya, hello people!
ps I've been infiltrating these forums for like six months, so I've read quite a bit.

Hmm..I will not give you a list of specific songs but listening/playing/attempting these genres have helped immensely. I had been playing bass for 5 years.
Punk(Misfits, DK, Black Flag) - Metal(Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden) - Thrash Metal(Slayer, Testament, Kreator) - Melodic Death Metal(At the Gates, Amon Amarth, Kalmah) - Technical Death Metal(Death, Atheist)
I find some good jazz influence is also great for ideas and improvements throughout.
I can't wait to get a new computer with working sound though, I am awaiting of further expanding my musical tastes. Good luck!

I don't think I could classify songs into skill levels (what do I look like, the Royal Conservatory of music?)
If you find a song too difficult, practise it at a slower tempo where it is not so difficult. If you find a piece too easy, then add some complexity to it, like for example, take two eigth notes and turn them into a triplet. This is valuable practise which will help with your technical skills and your improvisation.
