Behringer V-AMPIRE
I have around $450 to spend and was looking into a more powerful amp. I've looked into a few, and the V-AMP comes highly recommended from my drummer's cousin, who has been playin guitar for 10-odd years, and has been using his V-AMP for quite awhile.
What do you all make of it?

I have it. Good for blues/fusion type of stuff. Absolutely horrible for any type of metal. I am currently using it for an effects unit. You can swing a used Crate Blue Voodoo or Peavey 5150 for around $400-$600 bucks on eBay. Cheers.

What makes it so bad? Is the Distortion really shitty or something?

Extremely horrible distortion. It's a great FX processor, but I wouldn't use it for your high-gain playing. Really muddy and the distortion sounds too "fake". If you do decide on getting it I would get a RAT or a DS-1 for some decent gain to push through it.

If Distortion's the only real problem, couldn't you just use a distortion pedal? I already own a Metal Master cause the distortion on my current amp (Ibanez Tone Blaster) sounded horrendous.

Yes, I just said that you should use a pedal. But overall, for the money you'd pay for the V-Amp, you could swing a used Crate Blue Voodoo or Crate Shockwave, which is much, much better.

I dunno why you would use a distortion pedal on a modeller, that's kinda insane.

Are you fucking retarded? The gain on most modeling amps is horrendous. I know from experience. A modeling amp is not good for metal MOST of the time, so a distortion/overdrive stompbox is normally ideal when using a modeling amp.

the moral of the story is DO NOT BUY THE AMP for that price you could probably get a new crate shockwave, my mate has one and it has insane distortion, a realy nice tone generally and it doesnt sound all thin and tinny like all the modeling amps.
i mean if you have the opportunity definatly get a blue voodoo or a 5150 but otherwise just get the shockwave

It has pretty decent FX. I use it for my effects unit at the moment.

your fuckin crazy if you don't think the vamp pro can get good tone. Luke from Sleep Terror uses one on every single on of his recordings and his tone is crushing for just being a direct in recording.

Its still bad. He most likely uses a rack unit as well. Why don't you buy a V-Amp if you think they are so good. Their gain sucks an immentionable amount of balls. But their effects are good.
