Hey im clueless on this subject. I've seen basses that have various types of wood as bodies. I believe that they affect tones, correct? what kind of tone does each one give, regardless of other hardware? Thanks.

I can't be much help on the subject, but it's more important to play a bass and decide whether you like the tone or not than just go by what it's made out of.

well what i mean is, would a maple body bass have a significantly different tone from the same bass with mahogany body? If so what kind of tones does each type of wood give? im not asking if its good or bad, im just asking what the kind of tone they have.

Yeah, different woods do produce different tones, along with the wood of the neck and fretboard.. Maple/Ovangkol/Bubinga are woods that produce a growl in the tone, it also depends on the pickups with the woods..
