Nevermore
What do all of you guys think of them? Personally they are becoming one of my favorite bands, alongside Bodom, Suffocation, Nile, and a few others. I really liked Enemies of Reality as well as This Godless Endeavor. They are one of the "accessible" metal bands that still stays true to their heavy roots. They have a lot of death metal inspired riffs, which I find unique combined with the clean singing. And Loomis owns.
Cheers
[EDIT] And are there any other similar bands, that are heavy yet have clean singing? I'm just wondering. Not that I'm a huge fan of the vocals, those album's might've sounded better with some gutterals thrown in.

Honestly, I think Nevermore is one of the most creative and original bands of today. They have a very unique sound combined with endless talent. They are by far my favorite band, and they deserve much more attention than they receive.

Nevermore kicks ass. they are unique and have good instrumentation. Although they are touring with disturbed, which is gay, Nevermore's music is still good.

I love Nevermore, but that decision was disturbing (no pun intended) for me. But these days you have to do what will further your band's publicity and sales. I hate pop-punk but have scheduled several gigs for this summer with pop-punk bands in order to further my publicity by feeding off the publicity of these shitty pop bands.

Very few bands would turn down that opportunity, gay as it is. Every band sells out to some degree, or you never hear of them. I don't mean in the mainstream music scene; I mean ever. Doesn't matter how good.
Nevermore rules, but you're not supposed to let anybody know. It's one of the best kept secrets in metal. If you have any consideration, you'll delete this thread so the secret will keep. Though it probably will anyway.
Transient's lying. He knows he likes them. You can find proof of it, easy.

That's fucking gay, that's like having the grand finale the at the start of the show.
Anyways, Nevermore is by far my favorite band. It's a goal of mine to learn as many Nevermore songs as I can. Right now I only know bits and pieces of songs. The only one I know all the way through is The Learning so I got a long ways to go . But soon I'll be getting myself a Schecter C-7 Hellraiser so everything with go alot smoother from there.

Well, there really aren't too many bands just like Nevermore because they're literally a mix of so many different genres. But you can try Manticora for the darker power/thrash and Evergrey, for some of the darker power/progressive metal. I could probably reccomend a ton of power metal bands for you but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Nah. Power Metal is good, but I'm looking mainly for heavy bands with dramatic vocals. I guess Nevermore are just special. And don't even mention doom, I know the vocals are dramatic (at least Candlemass's are) but doom is too slow.

Indeed. I used to ABSOLUTELY LOVE Children of Bodom, and I still like them, but their not my most favorite band anymore. I still think they are one of the best in terms of knowing theory and whatnot. Hatebreeder still makes me cream my pants. But so do a lot of Necrophagist albums.

'Have a few good songs' and 'blow' are two very different things. Learn what your words mean before you use them.
And nobody's opinion has every changed. Whoever told you that opinions change was lying to you so brazenly Jews would shake their heads and tk-tk their Jew tongues.
Knowing music theory has so little to do with making a band good it's laughable that you'd list that as a positive quality.

I meant as in the way they apply it. Not too many bands can pull off what Bodom does in terms of songwriting.

Haha. No, he's just been suffering from PMS lately. I've heard it should only occur once a month though and I can vaguely remember him acting the same way a couple of weeks ago.

Right. I'm pre-menstrual. And drunk.
You stated two opinions which are contradictory. If Nevermore fucking blow, they don't have a few good songs. If they have a few good songs, they don't fucking blow. Pick one, and only one.
The other thing was a joke. But you picked up on that, right?
If you mean their songwriting is topnotch, Jackson, say so. That's actually a different thing. When you start appreciating things for their ability to manipulate music theory you quickly find yourself in the wilderness of modernist music, which is by turns awesome and completely execrable. Much like any other kind of music, but this all with the finest theoretical background. Much more impressive than any, yes any, metal band has ever accomplished or will ever accomplish, not that it matters. Hell, even within metal Ron Jarzombek has done much more impressive things with theory (including inventing his own theoretical constructs) than any of the people whose names keep getting bandied about this site. Shredders are chumps mewling about at the shins of giants, and of course we pay attention to the one and are ignorant of the other.

I'd pay them more attention if I didn't want to shoot myself every time I heard their vocalist. It isn't unique, it just plain sucks and doesn't fit the music.

He used to have a drug and alcohol problem, then had a diebetic stroke that almost killed him, and since then gave up all his bad habits, which were I believe psychedelics and vodka. Also sugar and some other stuff, hence the weight loss. He used to be legendary for showing up drunk and yelling at the band if they didn't play 'White Rabbit.' I've seen clips of it. Hilarious. He's always been pasty but I don't know why he was tugging at his beard.

he looked like one hell of a trip when i saw them live...he was taking his microphone cable and spinning it around like a jump rope throughout the entire show...but the best part is that he just stared at it..stopped head banging and twirled his fucking mic cord...
and everyone else in the band was fucked up beyond normality

I have a friend that tugs on his beard alot but that's because it drys all curled up so he trys to straighten it, so that could be a reason too.

T3h Beast likes t3h Nevermore.
T3h Beast considers opening for disturbed one of the less classy things they could have done, but then again, t3h Beast thinks that at least the parts of disturbed that t3h Beast has listened to are slightly metal, therfore t3h Beast can forgive them, but only because they are good.

Er, last I checked Van Williams was fucking amazing, but thats opinion for you. I think every one in Nevermore is amazing except for Jim Sheppard (no offense to the guy) but all the others seem particularly amazing at their instrument, whereas Jim never really seems to standout.
As for supporting Disturbed, it doens't bother me. I'd love to support Disturbed just to blow them off the stage and flatten the first few rows. I won't go and see them on this particular tour though, but there is nothing wrong with exposing yourself to a wider audience.
The minute Nevermore start sounding like Disturbed, then it's time to start bitching, and stop buying their albums. And, considering the bands roots, I can't see that happening.

I couldn't have said it better. That's why I'm leeching off of a few pop-punk band's fan base and going to gain recognition and hopefully convert some people to the dark side of music.

Whether they tour with disturbed or not, last time I checked their music still sounds the same. And we are all here for the music, right? If your opinion can be influenced by what is popular and what isn't, then doesn't that make you just as bad as all the nu-metal loving, shallow, fans out there? You're saying "they're touring with someone popular, they suck" and that is just as bad as saying "they're popular, they must be good" without taking the music in consideration at all. It's about the music, not the social status, this isn't fucking high school.

Actually, for many of our cherished members, this is high school. It goes easier if you keep that in mind. Not that I do.
Though, to be perfectly fair, Disturbed were shitty when nobody knew who they were. They just weren't in a position to get Nevermore some new fans, which I honestly doubt will happen if they're there for Disturbed. But I don't begrudge a band trying to get exposure by accepting a high level tour. I begrude bands getting exposure by pandering their style and little else. You don't have to be high profile at all to pander, either.

I seriously would love it if somebody would post a download the Dead Heart, In A Dead World. Or is there a way to get your money back on iTunes? Either way I need to hear that album.

The Disturbed tour has been postponed, and Nevermore will still be the support in September.
Disturbed's vocalist has injured his throat again whilst on tour in the US, so has been told to lay off for a while. But you probably care about that as little as I do

Nevermore are the fucking greatest!
Their sound is awesome! Better than all the high end climbers that infest power and prog'.
This Godless Endeavor is one of the most creative things I've ever laid ears on.
And Jeff Loomis' Hellraiser C7 is now being made lefty!!! AAAAGH!!! YYYUUSSS!

I haven't heard albums, just songs. Enemies of Reality, Born, Final Product, and Believe in Nothing are all floating around my computer somewhere. I can't stand any of them.

I like the singing on Final Product, but some other songs I can't stand. And I HATE their ballads. But I mainly love them because Jeff Loomis' tone makes me shiver.

Well, you listen to Lamb Of God.
Anywho, Dreaming Neon Black is the best album to ever come out of America. I see you have no songs from that album. It might stir in you a liking for Nevermore. Warrel's vocal style may be an acquired taste for some.
And their ballads are superb as well.

My personal favorite album is probably The Politics of Ecstasy.
But yeah, I burned a Nevermore cd for a friend of mine awhile back and he said he couldn't stand the vocals, he's a big Lamb of God fan too.

Warrel's style is an acquired taste.
And nothing's wrong with LoG. Pandemonium just favors that style of argument. Flat declarations of another's disqualification in the realm of taste based on disagreement with his own. You see it a lot on the internet. It's charming.

'Politics...' is almost certainly one of their best, if not the best. 'This Godless Endeavour' is good, but I think I prefer 'Dead Heart In A Dead World'. 'Godless...' loses it's way in the middle a bit I think. 'Dreaming Neon Black' is amazing, so desperate and dark, and the production has to be one of the heaviest non-death metal productions ever, and they were only in Eb then.
The vocals you can take or leave, I came from a Maiden background, so have nothing against clean vocalists, but I think Warrel is far more diverse than Bruce Dickinson ever will be.
I also like Lamb Of God. Whats wrong with them?

Umm, they are OK, they are overrated, and umm, well a lot of their stuff starts to sound repetetive and monotonous.

The Lamb of God I heard had terrible production and vocals, as well as generic riffage.

The production is so much terrible as the riffs are generic. Their riffs mostly bore me, but I still like them occasionally.

I always get confused when people say Warrel is a bad singer. It doesn't make any sense. For me, it was instant love. And yes, In Memory is fantastic. Too bad it wasn't a full length.

I wish I had the money to buy that. I know I just got Dead Heart....and I'm going to buy it once I get the money. I'd like to get all of their albums. Too bad cash is low and so are the torrents.

i was thinking though...when i first listened to them i remember thinking the singing was a bit odd and out there. i knew it was good music though so i stuck with it and fucken loved it. but unfortunately most people wont listen a band if they thought that they sucked on the first thing they heard...only suggestion: give it another chance or fuck off cause n3vermore is t3h sh17!!~~!#W!!

It is my belief that the very best bands (or the very best albums, at least) don't strike the right chord with one on the first listen. But then there are some that do strike the right chord and are still some of the very best bands. I first heard Insignificant around the time Dead Heart came out and I loved it. I never thought the singing was in any way odd/distracting/bad/whatever. I bought Dreaming Neon Black shortly after and still found nothing unusual about the singing; WARREL just has a great voice! I guess I'm just exceptional in my ability to love Nevermore. That said, when TGE first came out, it took a few listens to really appreciate it as the best album of the year. That may also because I was pretty darn depressed since I was back in the States; TGE isn't good depressed music.

I was a dirty-vocals maniac when I first heard Nevermore. It was growling or low shouting or nothing. And I still loved them! Perhaps it was because the first time I heard them, it was the video for Enemies Of Reality, which I found a little creepy. That was my pre-Meshuggah, pre-guitar days. The way Loomis' hand darts across the fretboard in the solo still left me going "whoa"!

Well, and you are a Biomech' listener too!
Some say there are some similarities betwen the 'Mech and the 'More, as well.
Just because of the comparisons to Queensryche!

Nevermore are awesome. It took awhile for them to grow on me but they did, and now I have this huge unsightly Nevermore growth on the side of my head. TGE and DNB are my favorites, but I haven't heard them all as of yet.

Man! All my favorite bands tour AWAY from St. Louis.
Yeah, I like Disturbed, and I definitely like Nevermore. First song I've heard from them, "I, Voyager," ruled. This one cd I got which had, along with nevermore, Arch enemy and LAcuna Coil, had "Enemies of Reality." Really heavy and gut busting.
I just realized how old this topic is.

Im really not big on power metal in the slightest, but Nevermore is one of the few power bands I can tolerate, along with Iced Earth, Savatage, Symphony X, and to a lesser extent, DragonForce (although theyve kinda been riding my nerves as of late)

I liked the vocals right when I heard them. I don't mind a metal vocalist who can sing, just as long as they sound like a man and not a fucking teenager like Serj does.

Nevermore...ahh fuck they're great. Personally Enemies of Reality is my favorite album, followed by Dreaming Neon Black, then This Godless Endeavor, The Politics of Ecstasy is fantastic as well, even their self titled album is great. They really are aspiring and I can only imagine what they'll do in the future. Loomis writes most the music and he's a real Death metal fan and loves the heavy shit so we can only expect them to get even heavier in the future. I admit when I had bearly started listening to Nevermore the vocals would throw me off, but now as an avid listener they are absolutely brilliant, if anyone ever doubts Dane's talent please give their albums another spin, songs like Sentient 6, My Acid Words, Who Decides, Seed Awakening (shit I can name all of their songs right now...) depict Dane's skills quite well, he not only has a great voice but he's a fucking genius when it comes to lyrics...pure fucking art.
As for them being the best thing to come out of America, dude....hello?...Death? How can you forget about them?!

How ironic that they have made all this great music but 3 out of the 5 members have a chronic illness. Dane got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a whiel ago, Smyth is on leave until he gets his kidney situation worked out, and Sheppard has Chron's disease. And they're STILL better than most bands that are at full health!!!

HA, of course they aren't the best power metal band. Cause they .....ARE'NT a power metal band. Just cause they have a singer who sings and (used to) go into a falsetto range, they aren't power metal. Iced Earth fits the Power Metal mold better though and are one of my favorite bands. It's just that both bands have too much thrash influence to be considered power metal IMO.

I could see the argument against Nevermore as a power metal band, but Iced Earth? Thrash metal? I can't see that, they may have more aggressive elements to their sound, but theyre still power in my book

I think he was pointing out that you said "Death...power metal?", which either means nothing or has nothing to do with the thread. Either way, you are pretty stupid not to realise even after he pointed it out

it sounds like he's constantly flat when he sings, but somehow it fits.
