It's cool to see them step back from the kinda dumb 'look how technical we can be' direction they seemed to've been going in since Pat joined up. Then again, aside from track two, which is some old-school goodness, it's pretty uninspired. Still, I appreciate the old schoolness.

It is in low quality, but you can tell the recording job is good, especially the drums. Ill have to hear the whole album clearly to make a judgement. Im sure there is some brutal shit on it.

this is some real killer stuff, waiten long to hear anything of their new album.
I like all samples very much, seems that they have changed quite a bit since the wretched spawn, seems like they don't play as much technical riffs as they ´they did in the last two albums and corpsegrinder also sounds different.
Anyway,I'm looking forward to buying this...CC is by far the best dm band anyway,xD

The last 3 songs are good, but the others are very mediocre. I wish CC would get a new drummer...

I agree. I think Paul's drumming is what is holding them back. It's very bland an unoriginal. He needs to actually start using some creativity and not just putting blast beats everywhere.

I'm really looking forward to this album a lot
I'm sure pat and alex have a lot more surprises waiting....and this album will kick on a nice sound system for sure
I won't argue with the fact that paul could be holding them back....I can only imagine what they would sound like with Flo or Derek or George playing drums for them....that would be nuts.

It's alright. They didn't really evolve that much fro The Wretched Spawn. Well CC hasn't evolved much after Gallery Of Suicide. But that's IMO.
What songs did they do in G#? Are they on the E-card?
Oh and that is not the actual cover art. It's just the censored cover. Supposidly that will be what it will look like in stores but the actual violent cover will be behind the censord one in the case.

I think the simple drumming is what makes them THE Cannibal Corpse. New drumming = whole new band. It's essential.

I think the vocals are mixed a little strangely, too loud for one, but aside from that, I'm loving it. I'll definitely be buying this.

The beggining of Death Walking Terror is a complete rip of from Sepultura- Inner Self though.

Seems I've touched a soft spot. let's go with this most Cannible Corpse that I've heard is boring, and this isn't anything new. I can appreciate they haven't sold out. Other than that not my taste.
I would much prefer to hear something about a philanthropic vegan corpse with interesting, and none repetitive music.

Thank you! The drumming is a big part of CC, You can tell when you hear that signature blast that its Paul. Did you guys watch any videos or see them live? Do you think its easy to play that shit? You can boot guitarists & vocalists but without Alex or Paul is just wouldnt be Corpse!

You should have known better than to dislike Cannibal Corpse. We only allow for a very narrow breadth of taste on this'ere site, an' we don't take kindly to anybody what don't like the Cannibal Corpse around these parts! Now git!
The exact opposite of Cannibal Corpse isn't Metallica. It's something with clean vocals, thoughtful lyrics that develop over time rather than remain in the narrow box one member drew the lines to fifteen years ago, song rather than riff-based writing integrated among all the members, a tendency towards melodic rather than rhythmic patterns, a relaxed pace, a lot of smooth lead guitar well-integrated into the song structure, varied drumming, etc. Not necessarily better than CC, but who knows? Sounds a bit like Pink Floyd. I'm not really sure I'd want to hear CC moving in a Pink Floyd direction, but I do love Pink Floyd.
Paul is not a very good drummer and probably part of a reason continues to come off as repetitive despite a serious movement since the inclusion of Pat O'Brien towards pointless technicality. So, in a way, he is part of what makes the CC sound. But not necessarily in any kind of good way. That said I'm not sure I'd want to see them without him, but that has more to do with a sentimental attachment to one of the first bands and sounds that got me into death metal than a belief they still make music to get excited over.

Yeah, but just because something is difficult to play, doesn't necessarily make it good. If Pat played the same fast riff throughout every song, would it be hard to play? yes. Would it be fun to listen to? No. Technical ability AND Creativity are key components to music good. Listening to Paul play blast beats in every song is like listening to a guitarist play chromatic scales all day.

Technicality introduced for no reason aside from a showcase of being capable of such technicality. Technicality with no inherent value aside from being technical. Frantic Disembowlment, as suggested, isn't a bad place to start.
Of course, this is going to be subjective, and with such a large number of people on this site for whom music is little more than coordinated virtuosity I doubt my idea of pointless technicality is going to be the predominant one.

From what i've heard of the new Cannibal Corpse it seems like Paul varied his drumming a little bit... I mean he's atually hitting his toms.... And not for just drum fills....

The drumming sounds really simple, in reality it is pretty hard. He has an ectremely precise robotic style. I know a guy who can blast forever and do anything Roddy can [hyperbole obviously] but to play Corpse or Slayer if you have the robotic precision it is pretty extreme.
So in simple, my AWESOME drummer plays blasting for ages and speed speed speed easy and robotic Corpse type stuff he makes mistakes because of the 'Psychotic Precision' required.

Is the cover art going to be that bit that just says "Kill" ? cuz that would be gay we want more gore covers
I also think pat is pretty essential to cannibal he is one of my most favourite guitar players and he writes alot of my favourite songs by them since he has been in the band.

I tottally agree about the pointlessly technical thing. You can write an insanly technical song and be like "ha look what I can do" but it will sound boring and will not be fun to listen to. I have never been a huge fan of Pat's writting. A great player yes but he tries to show off way too much when writting songs.
And stop fucking asking about the fucking album cover. I already said it's not the actual cover. It's the censord verson. This is how it will apear in stores but the booklet will have the actual cover.

I agree with the pointless technicality, but i dissagree that Frantic Disembowelment is a good example. Shreders would be a good one.

Up here in Ballater, it's all gossipy and proper 'upright', and is not used to death metal imagery.
Me and Sacrifce went to the bank yesterday to get some money out with the Wretched Spawn t-shirts on, with that creature bursting it's way out of a wifie. I can tell you covers do have some effect! The stares we got!

The cover matters in some cases. It reflects the amount of effort and detail the band put into every aspect of the project. Unsurprisingly, you very rarely see genuinely good, fitting covers. Cannibal Corpse's covers do not matter.
I don't dislike technicality, I just like good songwriting. If you can integrate the two, and some can, bully for you. It's just that most people can't, they put an inordinate amount of practice in to get a certain set of skills but never put the same effort to the application of said skills. Being able to do godly things on the guitar is great; knowing to do them out of artistic necessity rather than being impressed with your own ability is much better. True in any art.

Yeah, but if you're lucky you get both. There are some guitarists out there who've put all the time into songwriting they'd put into technique and we're richer for them. Even in Cannibal Corpse, you have two 'techy' songwriters - Alex and Pat - and I think a comparison of the songs they write basically demonstrate the kind of difference I'm talking about.

Pat actually writes alot of my favourite cannibal songs i think it is good and i don't think he tries to show off he just writes what sounds cool to him even if its hard.
And you would have thought they would release the uncensored version of the album cover for us to see somewhere.

This is why i prefer Steve Vai over other shredders. Hes good, and he can keep you listening to it without you getting bored.

And what is with the sepultura rip? Cannibal Corpse are way too good songwriters to take a riff from some shitty band who use 3 notes per song.

Yeah, I really get bored with that shit. Satriani is about the only one I can listen to the most that does that stuff. Maybe because all the legato is kind of the way that I play...
But regardless, I'm looking forward to the new CC. I never really got into them a lot until I got The Wretched Spawn. I love that CD, and I'm kinda hoping the new one will be along the same lines. I can do without an insanely technical Frantic Disembowelment-esque song though. That's one of very few tracks on the cd that I almost always skip past.

Robbie Filth is not our smartest member. Sepultura have some albums that can tear your face cleanly off and keep it hermetically sealed in a plastic bag as a collector's item. That's psychotic goddamn precision.
From what they have up they don't sound like they're going in a Frantic Disembowlment direction. Some of those riffs on the site are old school as hell, which might be an indication of the album or just of a Webster writing credit.

from what i gather, it may be because it diverges from what is the usual sound of Cannibal Corpse.

It's not that it's too technical, it's that it's literally technical for no other reason than because it can be. Pat as much as says so on The Wretched Spawn DVD. To me, that's not a song. That's an exercise.

Yeah, thats a point. But then you could also argue that thats what they are about, to a degree (judging by what Pat says) Arent his words something to the effect of playing music technically just to slap other bands in the face?
I still wouldnt say that the CC examples are exercises plain and simple though, there is definitely an element of thoughtful arrangement and composition in them, even if they dont change tempo much, it does flow well.
ah well. I am still waiting to hear this album. I looked for a leak, but couldnt find any, so Ill just pick it up when it comes out anyway. Like I think ive said before, Im very intrigued as to the overall feel of the album and what the instrumental is like...

I'm not talking about CC in general, or even all of Pat's compositions, but Frantic Disembowlment specifically.
How the hell would playing technical death metal be a slap in the face to the scene? That's all there is anymore. Pig Destroyer is more of a slap to the face of the tech-obsessed scene than CC will ever be. I have trouble hearing anybody claim to be blazing a new trail that's slightly above the old one, to give a better vantage for pissing on it, when they turned tech at the same time the scene as a whole did.

ummm what?
also,Vile was when they started getting technical to a degree...than they picked up pat for Gallery of suicide.
aside from being technical just to be technical, pat made the point on the DVD that "death metal is like Jazz", because you can do whatever you want on it...
if mindless technicality happens to be one of them than so be it....
can you honestly admit that watching the frantic disembowelment vid that it doesn't impress you to a certain degree? (I know someone will say yes)
I love it...I look up to pat's playing....but god forbid there be a whole album of songs like frantic disembowelment.....I think your ears would bleed honey or something...
BTW...alex noted on the forum the fastest song on this album would be "brain removal device"...

I got Make Them Suffer for free at www.downloadpunk.com, it's the best shit they've ever come up with. technical, brutal, and fucking evil as hell. WELCOMW BACK ROB!!! George's vocals are the best they've ever been, Pat's on top of his game, Paul is Paul, and Alex is the mastermind behind the scenes. All Hail Cannibal Corpse.
