Guitar materials
I'm currently looking to construct my own custom guitar, similar to a Rhoads on Warmoth.com. Which woods would you recommend for the body, neck fretboard, etc. I'm most likely using Brazilian Rosewood for the fretboard, but I'd like to get your opinions on which materials you have had the best repsonse with. Thanks..

mahagony or alder are the best body wood choices for metal imo.

you'd be happy with alder. it'd probably be easier to get your hands on and it sounds pretty good. probably be happier with mahogany, but alder is not a bad choice. maple neck is very common bceause it works so well. rosewood is not bad, but ebony looks much better.

problem with ebony is it cracks when the frets are punched in... so you'd have to fret it by hand... and it also cracks when it dries out, and swells when its overoiled which pushes the frets out. Rosewood is cheaper, and easier to manage, but its not as smooth under your fingers... and doesnt look as badass... So if you're up to a challenge with some sexy results, go ebony all the way.
For neck i'd say hard maple... its durable, and necks are a bitch to replace, so its good to have a long lasting one.
Now, my opinion about body woods is that alder is better than mahogany straight up, unless the mahogany has a maple top. I just like to have more high end resonating in my body wood so that the distortion cuts a bit more... And mahogany is so bassy that your neck pickup might get a bit muddy... even moreso if you decide to go with 22 frets.
hope that helped

Your right to point out the difference in the bodies resonation frequencys, but Mahogany body's low resonace can be pretty easily tamed with the right pickups. The guitar im working on now is mahogany, and it sounds great.I can feel the extra bass-ness in it,but isnt muddy at all.

I'd go for a mahogany neck and mahogany body with an ebony fretboard and neck through construction. SHould get really good sustain and a nice fat sound to it. Ive tried a guitar(ESP JH model) with those specs, except with a rosewood fretboard and EMGs, and it sound REALLY good IMO.
