I'm wondering, do people generally use chorus all the time when playing high gain metal stuff? I'm still not very sure what exactly chorus does, it just gives makes the sound bigger and more distant/echoey sound(but not like delay) right? I listen to a lot of death and thrash metal, but I can't really pick out any moments where someone is using chorus. Maybe some bands use it all the time for rythm work and I'm just too dumb to distinguish? Maybe someone can point to a high gain clip or song with chorus in a rythm track.
I considered a Boss chorus, but I hear they all color your sound a lot. I don't really want that, I think I'd want something transparent but then again I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. I just want something that will make leads stand out, and the rythm sound fuller and stuff, that's what it's supposed to do right? What other non-Boss Choruses would you reccomend? I hear the Rocktron Deep Blue isn't too good, and the MXR/Dunlop chorus is out of my price range.
I just discovered that my amp has an effects loop jack. I don't understand how this works, I'm supposed to run my pedals into the loop, as well as the guitar line itself? Or just the pedals, and the guitar into the regular line jack?
It goes between the poweramp and preamp of the combo right? Where should I place a noisegate and EQ pedal? Please explain, as well as what the advantages of using an FX loop are. I hear you get better sound quality with modulation effects.
Thanks. It seems illogical for me to not know this with almost 2 years of playing experience.
