Yea, well, relax. I saw a couple of other clips on there, talking about 2012 and 2036 and maybe some more - and it's just bad astronomy, there's a chance of about 1/1000000000 that it will happen... that particular year. And anyway, it's not even these big chunks that's the problem, at least not for much longer. Steps are, believe it or not, being taken.
No, what you should worry about isn't something we'll soon be able to detect and be able to do something about. But if anyone could come up with a good tracking device for objects about the size of a wheelbarrow, then please raise your hand, 'cause that's all it takes to erase the surface of a large city, boil all the water in the vicinity and generally make people living on the other side of the planet wish it hadn't happened.

Well... let's picture the asteroid belt as an example:
This is a pinch of small pebbles. This is me throwing the pinch of small pebbles as far as I can into the Saturn V Assembly Building.
See?

Well, at least I'm relieved someone noted. I was beginning to fear I'd have to put out a disclaimer or something.

I like Stamets. I've read several of his books and even though some of his ideas are a little 'far out' (like mushrooms being sentient organisms) I think that he's pushing in the right direction and clearly has some very interesting ideas.
This TED youtube channel that posted this is great! Lots of interesting stuff.

I dunno. If I ever have my fair features ravaged by grenade shrapnel or a lab accident, I don't think I would mind having a well established technique for face transplants on hand. Of course, this clip did leave me wondering where the raw materials, as it were, came from.

Don't tell me you just took that thing about global warming causing tsunamis seriously. I'm not religious, but if there was a thing I wanted to brand as a death sin...

Haha I love Troll Science. The face is simply called trollface and originated on 4chan a few years ago.

There is an entire archive dedicated to Troll Science comics if you want more.

It's saying the kind of stuff that makes geeks like me do a little happy dance with excitement. It certainly would fill in a few holes in our understanding of both the extremely small and the beginning of the universe.
But confirm string theory? Bah. I'll believe it when I see it. String theorists? Damn cultists.

Been putting a dent in "Cosmos", it's basically a TV series from the 70's hosted by Carl Sagan about trippy cosmic shit. It's a little dry sometimes, but worth it for the gems... and believe me there are plenty of them. It's streaming on Netflix now, thought a few of you might find it interesting!
