Record it. First you need someone willing to record your shit. Find that dude, pay him. He'll tell you what to do and make you sound good, tell him to make X amount of copies of your demo. Find a record store willing to cary your music (which almost no one will) or give it to your friends, who give it to their friends, and eventually that record store that told you to suck your own penis three months ago will say "We'll sell your music now".
Get to it. Ass.
By the way, Ever hear of the Gear and Recording forum?

A recording device...
But rather than spend a fuckload of cash on good recording gear, you could simply rent it or book some studio time if it's not extremely expensive. You'll get way better results, as you'll be using much more professional recording equipment. Just go prepared, with all your songs and gear ready, as they charge you by hour so don't waste time. I'm sure the folks working there can help you with tips on micing and shit, but it's entirely up to you.
I live 2 blocks away from the studio where Ill Niņo and Sepultura have recorded their albums.

recording is pretty easy. theres many programs you can use.
for a band its a bit different than just on your own. if you have a laptop you can just bring your laptop to the band practice area and have everyone lay down a track. micing the drums is a not as easy as micing a cab but if you have a decent mic, you can get the drums sounding semi decent with just one well placed mic.

yeah, a recording program sounds better, learn more about recording this way and its way more convenient. a 4 track is an analogue recording console, i sold my tascam a year ago and totally fucking regret it, whats cool about 4 tracks is its really easy to use, small and cheap so you can just set it up in your room and mess around, synchronize stuff, experiment, etc. the end result will sound decent enough. whats also cool about the 4 track is that you can bleed the tracks all you want, distorted guitar will sound really raw and cool, gives everything the warm analog fuzz thats kindof gone missing since the digital age took over

What would be a good used 4-track recorder to look for, like which brand should I look at and what features?
*edit* is the TASCAM Portastudio 424 MK2 decent for a beginner wanting to get into recording?
