Ed Roman Paul Crook Rockingbird

Hiya everyone,

I'm new to the forum.

Does anyone own (or has played) an Ed Roman Paul Crook Rockingbird?

http://www.edromanguitars.com/guita...s_paulcrook.htm

I was fortunate enough to see Paul play one live at a Meat Loaf concert last summer, wow! Although I'm don't actually play 6-string at the mo (I play drums and am learning bass), I'd like to learn to play lead in the near future.

Paul's official site - http://www.metalloaf.com

Any comments/opinions would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Wow this thing is amazingly...EXPENSIVE...for only appearing to be a decent guitar. From the look of it, thats a mighty awkard fret board...too big for my tastes. Also its purple..whats up with that.

In my opinion, it's a bad idea to get into guitar purely because of one desired instrument. I know a lot of people that only play guitar because they've bought warlock guitars. Beyond this, it looks like a highly priced guitar that is unlikely to be ideal for learning on and developing a style, especially when compared to guitars of a similar price that would do a far better job. Also one thing people forget when buying a signiture model is that the tone and style comes from so much more than the guitar, the most important being the experience the guitarist has, which no amount of money can buy (yet... hah). An obvious reason why signiture models often result in dissapointment.

If you begin guitar through buying an expensive model that could prove to delay your learning process, you're going to progress slower and also possibly regret the investment.

If you're serious about learning guitar, maybe try out this model and a few others and decide from there, though I'll say again that signiture models in my opinion arn't as good a purchase as at first they may seem. I ended up with a Yngwie Malmsteen model and regretted buying it within a few days playing.

Welcome to the forum, thanks for the good grammar and typing

I have very mixed feelings about Ed Roman.

He is selling a Jem 10th for $12,000. He has a PMC for over $5,000, and wants $3,100 for a FP. Those prices are absolutely astronomically heinous.

I HAVE, on the otherhand, heard that some of HIS original guitars, like the Quicksilver and Pearlcaster, etc., are very, very good quality and worth the price. I don't know, I'm kind of skeptical, because I've read some of the e-mails he has written to other places that bash him about his prices, and he seems like a cutthroat businessman, so it really leaves a lot to wonder.

If you get a guitar from somebody, and like the quality, and feel like you're getting a deal or your money's worth, then by all means, do it. But I would never buy a 10th, PMC, or FP for half of those prices.

He used to only care about high end guitars, but has changed his prerogative to what I can only imagine as a money making business. I personally understand the fact that people are out there to make a living, but his is a little exorbitant.

Ed Roman is more about looks than sound and playability I think. He does produce some mental machines though. Check his custom fretboards!

Hey,

Thanks for your opinions!

Jaxadam mentioned Quicksilvers and Pearlcasters, I think Quicksilvers in particular are beautiful too!

Anyone else owned/played one?
