Tight sounding preamp?
I own a Marshall TSL100 and am looking for an inexpensive preamp to accompany my current setup. I'm not in dire need of anything, just want to have "another" sound handy. My main demands are high gain and tightness (which Marshalls obviously aren't famed for). I had considered E530, till I read comments describing them as Marshall-esque (nothing against Marshall, I just want to have a different sound).
Any recommendations? And if I'm wrong about the Engl, please let me know.

Maybe you want a POD pro?The e530 does have a similar tone, but it has more gain.Check out:
Ada mp-1
Marshall JMP-1
Digitech preamps
Rocktron
Voodoo lab
Mesa
Just to name a few,but check out POD's first up,as they have effects and whatnot also.

the e530 shouldnt have any problems getting tight sounds.
for a super tight sound, check out a sansamp psa-1. it's solid state so it's like dimebag tight.
a modded ada mp-1 would probably do the trick.
also the vht preamp... but that's probably a little more money than you're lookin to spend.

I'm running an E620 and it's pretty damn tight. I'm not sure about the tonal differences between this and the E530, but the E620 doesn't have THAT much gain, certainly enough for metal though.

Thanks for all the suggestions. As much as I don't want to turn this into another E530 thread, could anyone describe it's tone to me a bit considering my needs? Or if anyone has played both JCM2000's and the Engl, could he compare them in the cleans and gain department?
P.S. I can't buy online/used, so if you suggest anything it has to be below 500-600 US Dollars new.

The 530 is marshall-esque, but emphasis on the esque there. It has a mix of the ENGL character (i'd say about 80%) and the marshall character (20%). With the right pickups, it's definately a tight preamp. I havent tried it with EMGs, but i'm willing to bet it's pretty articulate with those. it has MORE than enough gain, especially if you turn up your mid controls. A bit on the bright side of the tonal spectrum, but that's easily fixed with on-board-EQ, but if you need more of a boost any EQ pedal will do the trick.
