Ahh i remember a couple of years ago when i was into Rancid and learned all of the '... and out come the wolves' album, that was a legend of a solo.
But that video, and that player wasnt that great, he was off the beat, his notes werent that accurate, it seemed like he was hitting random frets most of the time.
Sorry, didnt impress me

Ive had the album for 3 years now, the solo is pretty impressive, its all played with a pick though, but still some nice notes in there.
From there album called 'Rancid' check out the song 'Axiom' that has a cool shreddy sort of bass solo from Matt.

this is an very nice solo, but it pales in comparison to one from "axiom" off of their 2nd self titled. as for the theory behind the notes i believe hes working a pentatonic bluesy thing. ive had the priveledge of seeing this cat live and he does use a pick, somewhat, its actually a very intersting technique. he holds his pick with his thumb and forefinger and plays 75% of his bass lines with his middle ring and pinky fingers.he only seemed to use the pick for the occasional fill and parts of the solos.  |

didnt impress me either. the fact that imo his bass sounded like ass didnt help either. I guess i'll check out the recorded version sometime. what album was this off of?

Rancid - And Out Come The Wolves, song "Maxwell Murder"
I love this band
Dead Bodies is and awesome song.
The bass on "And out come the Wolves" is quite a brilliant performance for the whole album.

Recently checked out "Axiom". Kicks ass. Faster and more interesting than Murder.
