Buy your self...a ds-1 or a metalzone...
I use both of them and i think they are great....
cause i dont have the money for a high gain tube amp..like every one wants you to have...

SO those 2 pedals are great....try them out

Yeah for me the Metal Zone has always been half decent through a solid state amp through the clean channel. I am currently thinking of buying one of those G2D Morpheus distortion pedals though! they aint too cheap mind.

I find the metal zone sounds a lot better accompanied by a bit of delay too

You could get a Danelectro FAB Metal distortion. They run $!5- $20, and sound pretty good. I run my through my 10W First Act (Wal-Mart bought), practice amp and it sounds great. Really brought the amp to life. Not a serious pedal by any means, as it lacks any real EQ. You have Gain, Volume, and Tone. It shits harmonics. Though for a larger amp this pedal will not be nearly enough.
I haven't tried it through my 30W Marshall yet, but my buddy plugged his in through his Peavey 112 Bandit 100W combo and it was too weak. For a big solid state amp get a MetalZone MT-2 from Boss. Plenty of EQ options and gain for what you need. Whatever you do don't get the Grunge pedal, I think it's made by DigiTech. It's just a bastardized Metal Zone with less gain and no EQ. The MetalZone will set you back a good hundred bucks, though, so make sure you try one out before you decide to go for it.

Try a ProCo Rat, considering your interest in music, or a Maxon OD808.

the maxon wont do anything buy itself. and the rat wont get you into the heaviest territory. maybe if you had a turbo rat and a hot guitar you could get into heavy territory.
