Bass strings on guitar???
Hi all, Just wondering whether its possible to install bass strings on a regular guitar and have them function. In my case, I am going to buy a 7 string guitar and have the lowest string an 8va lower than the 2nd lowest string.... So its kinda like a guitar with a bass string...
Anyway just wondering whether the bass strings notes will be in line with the frets on a standard guitar? Anyone done this before? Basically im looking for super-crunch to compensate for not having a bass player in our band, and I thought this would be an original way
Suggestions welcome...

I wouldn't work for a few reasons, but the most obvious one being that the bass string wouldn't fit throught the tuning key or on the bridge nut.

QFT. Youll just rape your hardware in some elements.
Get an octave pedal and split your signal through it, bass is apparently one octave below normal guitar register. Its what I do, but down two octaves.

it will work...but it depends on a few things. If your bridge is a floyd, there is no prob most of the time...since on most floyds you just clip the ball end of the string.
If it is a string-through bridge, what I have done before is just removed the bass
ball end (cut it with a pair of plyers...beware of bystanders) and put a regular guitar ball end in its place.
I've done this on many occasions...all the way up to .080 guage.
Don't say it can't be done unless you haven't done it.

Maybe is you get the thinnest gauge bass string,or a thick gauge guitar string.

it will work because roy z and adrian smith did it on 1 of bruce dickinsons albums accident of birth i think (not certain) this was just for the studio though live they used an octave pedal

My friend used the thinnest bass string as his 7 stringer's low B before. It works, but sounds and feels like ass.

I always use a .70 bass string for the low A when i'm in drop A tuning
