sure you can. it depends on the guitar. i have an 81/85 set in my rg570... but do you think i'd ruin my parker fly deluxe or amercan deluxe strat with emg's? hell no!

yeah they're different. they're really hot and tight sounding.
the piezos sound pretty good.
the trem is cool because you can ajust the feel via the roller on the front, so i just keep it all the way tight so i can change tunings and use heavier strings.
it's smoother than any guitar you'll ever play.

My favourite is 81/60, especially with a tough mahogany fixed-bridge guitar with serious sustain, like an LP or Explorer.
60 just sounds way better IMO in the neck, clean and distorted. It's more of a neck-pickup than the 85. No offense Mr. Wylde and the million other guys who play 81/85...
