Les Paul EMG's?
I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio that still has the original pickups which are:
Neck Pickup: 490R Alnico magnet humbucker
Bridge Pickup: 498T Alnico magnet humbucker
I was wondering if anyone has replaced their stock Gibson pickups with Duncan or EMG's. If so what were the results of the tone.

I wouldn't say it would "kill" it, but EMG's in a LP won't truly bring out it's tone. I've played my friend's LP classic which has a JB in the bridge, and it Kicksass, very nice chunky sound.

Really this should be in the gear zone since your pertaining to the pickups of the guitar. Check out the EMG sticky thread in there. Loads of good information, I'm sure someone dropped EMG's in their LP and wrote about it.

Yeah, EMG's are great but I wouldn't put them in an LP, get some decent DiMarzio's or SD's, imo EMG's are best in a 7-string. SD's or Di' will get the most out of your guitar!

Thanks for the info Dyvim. Maybe I am in luck, because I happen to of purchased a DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup about 6 months ago. I had pretty much forgotten all about it. It's worth a try right?

To be honest I've never really heard the "super distortion" but go for it, I'd be more likely to go for an X2n but hell, just try 'em out, see what you like, it's all personsal preference, i'd go for the "Super distortion" over an EMG for a 6-string though.

super distortion isnt a bad choice... its pretty much your basic hot pickup... randy rhoads used them... its not very high gain though... id say get some kind of a boost pedal if you want alot of distortion.
I've heard, but am not sure, that an x2n is pretty much like an emg 81 with more bass... I hope that kinda helps... yeah im useless...

The X2N is much like the 81, except that its passive. Generally ( and I'm an EMG player ) the EMG sounds like a 'fake' pickup, very processed, sterile, and unnaturally tight : Just what I look for in guitar tone. I encourage anyone thinking about EMG's to play them, with a set of those you never truly know what you're getting into until you play them.

Thank you all for the feedback and information.
Yea the X2n has a higher output than the "super distortion". It does seem like a passive EMG.
X2n:Output: 510mV
SD:Output: 425mV
I'll give the SD a try first and then let you all know how that turns out
