M-Audio's Jam Lab

Has anyone tried this product for home recording yet?
I havent found too much info on it yet or reviews anywhere on the web.
http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__M_Au...Lab,__11407246/

It seems cheaper than line6's guitar port, cheaper usually means crappier. any comments?

The world may never know. I think I'm just gonna buy the damn line6 guitar port. They've went down in price alot, espically on Ebay. I just hope I dont need any extra software to record with it. Like "Riff tracker" or some other crap.

Yea it comes with software I believe. I know the Guitar port does. I have tried all kinds of methods for recording into my pc. I have found one method of micing the amp with lots of thick blankets over the amp and over the mic. Just have to be careful not to let the mic slide right up against the amp. I wonder if anyone has ever sound proof'd an amp with a mic inside. Instead of doing an entire room

Hey Buddy
You won't need any extra software to record. The bare-bones Port will do just fine without the riff-tracker software. I have the Port, and am able to record to Adobe Audition, and 2 versions of Cool Edit. As stated in an earlier post, make sure you have a decent soundcard... also check with Line 6's site to make sure your computer is compatible with it. You can download the software from their site, and run the systems check. It will seek everything out in your computer and make sure it will run with your set up. Also, if you pick up an older Port that states it is not compatible with XP, you can still download the XP software from the LIne 6 site. The hardware is the same in each case.
Hope this helps...

Thank you Leevious. Very helpfull.
I can tell you my soundcard isnt crap but it isnt the best here is the make. RealTek AC97 Audio. Could you please tell which type of sound card you use. I'm running a 2.5ghz processor, 1 gig of ram, many usb slots, and WinXP.

No problem buddy.
I'm using an M-Audio 192, which has plenty of options for hooking up your gear. It's a decent card for recording... I found my onboard card (which apparently is the worst to use) to lag too much, no matter how I set up my recording configurations. The card has MIDI plugs too, which is always nice. I think you'll be hapy with the Port... I've never heard anything with the Jam Lab however. I also grabbed the Metal Shop pack from Line 6, which I would recommend as well. If you are inclined to buy the Port, try it out with your existing soundcard, and if you aren't happy, you can always upgrade then.

You can box in an amp with a mic in there insulated for recording.

Yea thats what I mean, hm we should make a post and see if anyone has done this and what the results were. Hell, I don't think it would be that hard to do on your own. Depends on the size of your amp and the distance from amp to mic that you want. I would say an extra foot infront of the amp for the mic. I'll try it soon if no one else has.

I believe it's an onboard chip, not a "soundcard". If that's the case, I'm afraid it's far from decent.

Come to think of it I believe you are right. If I remember it is built into the mother board..hopefully I can bypass it when I upgrade.
