Need Help! Amp Cracks

Okay,

I have a peavy SS 2x12 combo. When I go to turn up the volume, it cracks/pops. The crack/pop volume is the actual volume the amp is set at. I have to wiggle it to get that volume to come over to the actual channel. Someone told me that the pots were dirty and they just needed a cleaning. Can someone relate to this question or go about providing me with some information on cleaning the pots, like what to use? WTF a pot is on a amp, etc. Thanks!

That or if you want a deep cleaning, you can use some stuff called pot cleaner... which is basically isopropyl alcohol.

Okay,

I sprayed some keyboard cleaner in there. It seemed to of worked when I move the volume up and down slowly, but any somewhat jerky movement of the volume and it cracks/pops like a bitch still.

Are these pots similar to the pots on a guitar? I've never broke open the head on this amp yet, so I'm not familiar with the hardware inside.
