THD Hot Plate

Just wondering if any of you own them and what you thought of them and how much you paid for them.

I havent owned one, but if it helps i've heard that there's really no siginificant loss in tone unless you turn it to the highest setting (-16dB I believe), and that it does its job well.

i hardly had nice amps

marshall 9001 preamp
engl savage 60
and now a digitech gsp2101 preamp

and if i remember right xdx had a lil story about thd hotplates a long time ago in some thread, i cant remember what thread though, it must have been like 6 months ago i think.

but i do remember he described it as the best compared to marshall powerblock and others, and i think he sayd the noise gate (or whatever) was pretty good aswell. but i need to ask him bout that, cuz my memmory isnt rilli euhm... trustable

the thd hotplate and dr z airbrake's are much better for your amps than the marshall powerbreak.

A THD Hot Plate are for All-Tube heads, it allows you to put your head at full gain for optimal tube break up but you can adjust the volume through the Hot Plate so you won't go deaf. You plug you head into the Hot Plate then the Speakers into the Hot Plate so that the Hot Plate is in between your head and cab. So therefore you can get that great full gain sound when playin at low volumes. The Hot Plate is bascially a huge heat sink turning the energy coming from your amp into heat and gettin rid of it so that way all that power is not goin to your speakers and making everyone in your house deaf.

your amp puts out power to push the speakers.... to get a good sound from a tube amp you need to have it turned up a bit for some tube saturation. making it very loud. and if you want to have the same desired sound at lower volumes. you use a hot plate. it goes between the head and the cab, making the tubes clip, but soaking up some of the power before it hits the speakers and kills you.
