Cabinet Help

Ok so last month I got a Peavey 6505+ head and am now looking for a cabinet to go with it. I'd like celestion vintage 30's and was thinking of just going to Avatar to get a custom cab made, but when I went to a local guitar store I was talkin to the guy and he had a 300 watt Crate cab with celestions in it and he said that 300 watts would be too much for my head he said that if you have a cab thats too much watts your head will try extra hard to push the current to the speakers and it will break down the voice coils over time. Yet the cab made by peavey for my head is 300 watts. Is any of this true? Also my head is switchable from 4, 8, and 16 ohm and someone told me to get 16 ohm cause it would sound better with my head, is there any truth behind this? And about the mono and stereo, which do I go for? Sorry for so much here, any help is greatly appreciated.

It really won't effect your head negatively to have speakers that can handle more wattage than the head. Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as you have the right ohmage you should be fineand dandy.

It wont hurt the speakers then either to have a cab that can handle more wattage then the head. I mean my head is 120 watts and this guy was tellin me if I used a 300 watt cab then the voice coils would go bad, but I mean the Peavey cab made for my head is 300 watts so I don't know what he's talking about.

that guy is full of shit. any properly made head can handle being ran full tilt. and the speakers just need to be able to handle AT LEAST that.

if the impendance(ohms) is matched and your speakers can handle at least, if not more than your head can put out. you'll be fine.

Ok well this brings me to this on another site someone told me that V 30's might not be enough power to handle my head so he suggested the Celestion G12T-75. Which would be better. I play everything from Classic Rock to Metal, mainly Metal...like In Flames and stuff of that nature. So which would you suggest?

*edit* I just checked the celestion site and with 4 V 30's I'd ahve 240 watts, and with 4 G12T-75's I'd have 300 watts, so both would work since my head is 120 watts, but which would give me a great metal rhythm tone for In Flames and stuff like that.

The web site says 60 watts for V 30's and 75 watts for the G12T-75's. I just wonder what two of each would sound like?
