Pedals to get...

I'm getting rid of this lame ass multi effects that I bought recently, so I'll have some cash for a pedal(s) that I'm actually going to use. I'm thinking of buying just a Boss NS2 and an EQ pedal of some sort. What are Compressors/Sustainers used for? Do death/thrash metal bands use them oftenly or would it be useless for me?

I'm thinking of getting the Danelectro Fish n' Chips(gay ass name for an EQ pedal). It has good reviews but almost everyone sais it's very fragile, could anyone reccomend any other reasonably priced EQ pedals? Boss' is way to expensive for an EQ, I think, the most I'd spend on an EQ would be 40$. I might just get that Danelectro one 'cause it's so cheap, and I don't plan to step on it anyway.

What other pedal should I consider getting? I'm thinking of a delay, but the Boss DD-3 is not in my price range, maybe someone knows of some more affordable alternatives? After experimenting with chorus and reverb I decided they're pretty much useless to me. I thought of that Ibanez ToneLok but it has a bunch of other stuff I don't need, I just need a pure delay that's significantly cheaper than a Boss.

One question: If I get a Boss NS2 with the power adapter, can I use the "daisy chain" to power other pedals even if they're not from Boss?

the danelectro is a good pedal. if you dont plan on stepping on it go ahead and get it. a compressor well, compresses your sound by kind of keeping your volume level. it brings the quiet notes up and the very loud notes down. by bringing the soft notes up it increases sustain.dont know if youd use it. id use it for leads for the sustain. a seemingly good/ cheap delay pedal is the rocktron short timer. i havent acctually played the pedal but i plan on bying it. look into that. it can be had for 40-50 bucks

My boss compressor sucks for sustain....but the boss equalizer is good. There's also the dunlop eqs i dunno bout the but check them out. If you're going to buy an eq that is.

Be sure to get them used, and if you want something that last, dont buy any danelectro pedals. You will end up upgrading in the long run.You cant go wrong with Boss effects. But also consider a rack multi fx units, something like an alesis, they are pretty cheap and have most of what you will need. You can find cheap rack eq,wich are more versatile than the stompbox ones, and compressors.

From my search results i thought this is the best place to ask. What do you guys think about the MXR Wylde overdrive? how is the overdrive on that thing? Also does Zakk use it to boost boost his jcm 800 or does he use it on the jcm800's clean channel?

There's a Seymour Duncan booster pedal which also includes a 10 band EQ that you may want to search for. Cost me about $45 used but it works great for all that fine-tweaking of your tone and it really tightens up your sound before going into your dirty channel on your amp.
