Can you polish a Turd???...I hope so

Ok...So i,ve just brought myself a cheap (£170) Gibson copy with the idea of transforming it into an awesome sounding and playing guitar for a lot less than the real thing..i've got myself a dimarzio PAFpro and a fred pickup to put in..the tuning pegs im not sure if they are ok as there is no name on them. i have a bit of fret buzz and the action is not to good so it don't play too nice. the volume is straight in at full volume so theres no nice scope to play with. On the plus side its finished beautifully and looks the part.. can anyone advise me on what hardware to put on and how to make it play really well..cheers dudes

Change the action yourself. If its a gibson copy (les paul body??) then the bridge is likely fixed and adjustable. Be careful about it but if you are already getting fret buzz, well, its not going to go too wrong

Sooo, manually adjust your action and probably the truss rod settings too, the fret buzz might be coming from your necks shape (check)
I dont know, Ive always found fret buzz and action very easily remediable (is that a word?)

For volume settings, you likely wont need to mess about with them much anyway, but if you are in to that thing, just get a floorboard eventually anyway. Thats that solved.

Tuning pegs...hrmm, Id definitely look to replace these the quickest. Scout around, find some good tuning pegs man, that you can rely on (cant help here though, im using stock jackson and never had to change) else youll be fuckin out of tune repeatedly.

It sounds like you could be in for a bit of DIY action, but Im of the belief any guitar can be made to sound decent, its up to your personal tastes and what you believe is decent.

I wouldnt be surprised if you cant fix the buzzing on the neck, with cheaper guitars thats an inevitablility.
Assuming its a Les Paul copy,it should have a TOM bridge.Check out gotoh, wilkinson, shaller, ect for replacements.
Tuners,I would replace with Sperzel,Grovers or Gotoh.
A new nut would help, something like a graphtech.
You might also like to re-install the wireing and components, like the input jacks, potentiometers, switches, sheilding, ect.

Yea unless you're willing to do some serious work on the neck you're probably stuck with buzzing.

But dont forget other factors can influence buzzing, for example action, nut, saddles, truss ect.

Dont expect a total overhaul of tone. There are something you can't change, like the wood its made out of.

A lot of things make your tone, if its made of shit, its probably not gonna sound good, even if you put good pickups in it. I was actually gonna do the same thing as you are doing with a LP copy.

Check out EMG active pickups for it, theres a thread in the gear section i think all about them

Actives sound good in most guitars, better I say than the Dimarzio's you put in them im afraid.Though,it could sound great with them. What are the specs of the guitar anyway?
