Next pickup to try...
I just got a Tone Zone for my Ironbird and all I can say is that it kicks ass. I want to get a new bridge pickup for my alder-bodied fixed bridge Jackson Kelly too, to replace the lame stock pickup it has.
I want something like the tonezone but hotter with less bass. The X2N seems a little excessive(500+ mV, whoa), the Dimarzio SD I hear is quite muddy, as well as the SD Invader. I considered the Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge but I hear that one's for the more experienced, and is mostly for lead playing. Anyone know what other passives I should get for my other guitar? A PAF Pro is going in the neck, that's for sure.
Thanks.

check out a duncan jb... it's a little more balanced sounding than the tone zone, and it's pretty hot.

yeah the jb is probably what you want
though the invader doesn't sound that muddy in my alder body guitar. i guess if you have a 31 band EQ, you can help take that mud out.

Thanks for the responses
I think the JB is not hot enough for me... I've played it in my friend's LP(and Schecter) through my amp and though they sounded nice, I think I'll need a little more power than that. Could you reccomend something very similar to the JB(in terms of clarity and EQ) but quite hotter? Maybe something a little hotter than a tone zone, it's hot but I was expecting something a little hotter. Something that comes in a Red-Black or Red color would be nice too, but is not a must.
I'm also trying to find a PAF Pro that is Red-Black or Red with regular spacing, do you know of any sites that sell more than one pickup color for a non ridiculous price?

I thought that I read somewhere that the Duncan Distortion was similar to the JB in terms of tone but hotter. Don't know what colours it comes in though.

I wish there was a store you can go to try out any pickup you wanted before you buy them. Because ive wasted alot of cash on shitty pickups.

You could try the Duncan Distortion or the Duncan Custom, id still say try the X2N, i know it seems overly hot at 510mv but its not the type of pickup you place right up against the strings. It can be very tight.

musiciansfriend.com sells the X2N and I believe the PAFpro is various colors. I'm looking to purchase new pickups for my Ibanez RG in the next week. I'm putting a PAFpro in the neck, and am considering a X2N for the bridge. I agree with Cyber...wish there was a way to sample how pickups would sound in accordance with your gear.

less bass and more gain... try a super 2 or super distortion... the super 2 is fairly trebly, but not ear shattering... and a super distortion has a bit more treble than the tonezone.
BUT, i find the difference between the super 2 and the distortion, is that the super 2 is just fucking loud, while the distortion has more gain or crackle instead up straight up volume...

I did consider the Evo for quite some time. But nah, thanks for all the help, but I've decided that I'm getting an X2N with a PAF Pro or an Evo neck, but it's leaning towards a PAF Pro. Thanks
