size matters...?
ino this may sound like a stupid question, but do you think that the size of the neck effects your playing? i've asked a few people and suprisingly they say no. they reckon they can play just as well on fat neck than they can on a thin neck.
i personally think it does, like i have a gibson type neck on my guitar and i find it more difficult to do sweeps on it than on an rg. but i guess it also depends on what music your playing. anyways, so whats the deal with you?
btw what type of neck do you prefere? wide thin or narrow thick?
me? well im allllllll about the wide thin's - wizards in particular! jackson necks are also pretty tasty

It definately does alter my playing. If I pick up one of my Les Pauls, i'm gonna play some rock/hard rock and maybe a little metal. The neck is something you can "grab on to" more, so I kind of go for those big sustaining power chords, AC/DC style..
On the other hand if i were to pick up my jackson or schecter (although the schecter can kinda go either way....versatile guitar) i'm gonna be doing the crazy-shred-sweep-metal-domination thing. It's a lot easier on the thin, wide ne cks.

try sweeping on a full size classical. it does build speed and strenght and better tone. scence i've gotten my classical guitar it really helped me with stretchs and bends and other stuff.
my opionion its best that u have both. wide practice and thinner when performing, u will see a differnce

Yup!
I have a Fender Strat, its neck is a fatter C shape neck, not as wide but thicker. It's easier for me to grab, in comarison to my RG which has the Wizard thin low profile neck. It's not as easy to "grab", because it's wider but thinner. I've learned to adjust the way I hold my neck while playing the different guitars in order to keep my technique consistant.

If i play shit like Nile. Or other bands with tunings like Standard B or drop A I prefer the fat gibson style neck. For tuning like D or C# I like the feel of thinner let's say jackson necks. this may sound stupid or something but that's imo

yeah, if i down tune alot i like to have some stability in the neck, which helps the strings, cuz you aint gonna get that al the way down in A or B

The neck is the most important peice of the guitar when it comes to being able to play it well or not. Whoever said it doesnt matter obviously is either a complete n00b or a really old dude with 37 different guitars all different shapes and specs that he plays every day with the same song list. And that list is full of songs that are tech to the extreme.
Somehow, i think its option A.

Jackson necks turn me on. There's nothing like a thin, flat, bolt on neck.

Thats totally understandable. A thinner neck won't technically hold up a lower tuning as well as a thicker, fuller neck. Its kinda like a guys size. A skinny woman isn't going to be able support a 6' 2" 280lb black man with a 12 inch cock as well as, say, a heavier woman could.

I dont if this pertains to this but ever since i started playing 7-strings about 5 years ago, everytime i play a 6-string it feels like a toothpick & seriously effects my playing because of the very slimmer neck & missing string. Does this effect anybody else in the same way? As for neck size in 7-strings ive had 5 different 7-string guitars all with different necks & it really didnt effect my playing at all. For me i just got used to the guitar necks from playing them.

I think I'd be quite comfortable on a 7-string neck. I have really long fingers.

Of course it affects your playing. It affects how far you can wrap your hand around comfortably and where you can reach.
