Hello metalheads,
Can you tell when an audio wave or a bunch of waves combined together clips by looking at the wave? I use to always look at the wave to see if something clips. If the waves crest (peak) or trough (bottom) is completely flat means it clipped and it needs lowering volume. If the wave has natural curved shaped at the peaks than it is not clipped. That is the technique I always use when mixing. I don't trust Adobe Audition 1 in finding clips because it never does accurately at all. Anybody else do this technique to find clips. If not how do you locate clips.

a good recording program has an automated limiter which you should be running so you know for a fact you dont get any clipping.

I use my eyes and ears and it seemed to work ok for me or at least I think.
I heard Sony Sound Forge 8 is a good software that detects clipping automatically. Never used it though anyone here used it or a similar software?

clipping is only bad if it sounds bad.

anyone know how to use soundforge eight?
i have it and i cant not figure out how two lay tracks over tracks.
and mine allows clipping... all the time. could be the shitty little vocal mike though...
