power amp and preamp
hi.
i want to get an ampeg vh140 but as i cant find one anywhere on the planet im considoring buying a poweramo and preamp an then a 412 cab.
what power amp and preamp should i get to give me a brutal death metal tone (phagist, fetus, suffocation style)?
also i dont have an endless budget so maybe about 400£ max for the preamp and the poweramp togethor.
i dont realy know enough about it to know what one to get or even if i shouldnt bother and just wait till an ampeg shows up.
so what should i do?

Poweramps (tube ones in particulair) can be pretty expensive, even second hand. But you should be able to get a nice pre-amp for that money, say an second hand Engl 530.

so i could get an engl 530 preamp and then what power amp should i get?
i mean would it give me a decent death metal sound with the power and pre amp or should i just try and get the ampeg vh140?
if not what power amp should i go for?

I have no real expertise with poweramps, but peavey has some affordable tube poweramps on ebay.

peavey classic 60 or whatever seems to be the most affordable and reccomended power amp

My rig is an Engl 530/Peavey Classic 60/60 pre+power rack. I bought the engl new for $480, and I got a killer deal on the classic for $210 used. I dont know how much that translates to in UK Pound though.
I like the ENGL for everything. I barely keep the gain above 5 usually (but then again, more gain = not good, as I hope you know) and I get plenty metal tones. EQ is pretty responsive, and if you dont like that it responds really well to the Danelectro Fish 'n Chips EQ (like $38 new)
It IS a killer rig, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Except I kinda don't like people copying me, but fuck that, do what you want :P

Necrophagist,and fetus/suffocation have very different tone.If you rather Dying Fetus/Suffocations tone,wait for the VH140,if you rather the Necrophagist tone,go the 530/poweramp. |

yeah i kinda put down two of my favorite tones from bands, i didnt rely mean to associate their tones as yes, i do know that they are entirely different
