i was looking for tube amps and came across peavey classic 50 power amp.
what is this , i mean what would you do with this? is it just the knob part of like a combo amp or something?

There are 3 parts to an amplifier.The preamp(shaping of the tone),the poweramp (amplifies the tone),and the speakers to project the sound.That said,you would use it to power some kind of preamp.They are a pretty good power amp,matter of fact.

Preamp: All the knobs, where you shape and decide your tone basically.
Poweramp: Where all the juice comes from, might have some knobs. Will affect your sound depending on what tubes it has, what knobs it has, or if its SS.

so you couldnt run one with just a cab then, and not with a preamp?

you can but usually the preamp boosts the output aswell and ofcourse it shapes your tone. some poeple hook up line6 pods to SS poweramps.

guess that answers just about everything about poweramps.
