clear death metal guitar tone
hi
i'm new to the forum and was wondering if anybody could tell me how to get a clean guitar tone, i guess you would say 'high definition' i'm not sure what the terms are. i'm kind of new to playing guitar, i've been playing bass for a while and just started playing guitar seriously recently. i suppose the sound i'm trying to get is kind of like decapitated, vader, skinless, really heavy but clear. if anybody knows what the hell i'm talking about please help me out. thanks

Don't scoop your mids, that should help plenty.

Use pickups w/ good clarity. A lot of that clarity and smoothness comes straight from your playing. But I guess in terms of tone, like don't over do the Dist. and don't blast up your high's so that you've got a ear-shattering tone. Go easy on the bass too (no pun) otherwise it overpowers the sound and gets too warbly. And mids are the most important thing in guitar tone. You need mids so don't completely scoop it.

All of those bands use EMG pickups. If you want clarity, don't scoop mids as someone else said. You can still get the same chug(even better) and kill those weak trebly leads if you eq your amp right, rather than scooping the mids.
If you downtune, like to D for example, what works best for me is having the lows at 10 o clock, mids at 3 o clock, and highs at 4 o clock, but that's my amp and my guitar/pickups, so you should experiment around that area.

i think i know what your talking about. do you mean you dont have good note clarity with your distortion on? i got the same problem, when i try to go up a scale it sounds like a giant muddy fart. the reason is my amp sucks . what amp do you have?

on your amps eq or on an external unit?
ive had amps that sounded good like that... like my old jcm 900, and my old rivera tbr-1m... but say, my old triamp, my powerball, splawn, ect... hell no, you gotta use everything strategically.
