truss rod question
the strings on my guitar are resting on the 1st fret but quite high when you get to the higher frets, the neck doesnt look bowed foward but if it was bowed the otherway wouldnt it be the 6/7th frets that the strings were resting on?
also when adjusting the truss is it important to remove the strings?
many thanks!

I don't really know much about the truss rod but wouldn't you want to leave the strings on so then you could see if they're touching any frets while you're adjusting? Thats my logic anyway.

Sounds like it's got some bow to it.
This is what I do. It is usually the last adjustment I make.
Fret the 1st and 24th fret at the same time and see how much relief you have at the 9th fret. You want about 0.3mm. Maybe a little bit more, but not much. This is if you want some super low action, considering you've got the rest of the guitar set-up properly.
Adjust your truss rod in slow interval (1/4 turns) and let the neck settle for a few minutes and then check this.
Also, have you shimmed the nut? I would recommend placing one full 0.1 mm shim and then one 0.1 mm shim cut in half on the bass side.
If you are having trouble with random fret buzz, I would recommend you radius the trem to match the neck radius. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not that much. If you have any specific questions, PM me.

your neck might not have enough relief and your bridge is too high.
or
neck is bowing and your nut is too low.
or
it could just be a shitty guitar.

No special measurements, you're just gonna have to eyeball it. It's a good idea to shim the nut to eliminate fret buzz on the 1st thru 7th frets. I shim the neck pocket, too, and lower my trem all the way, shim nut and check neck relief, then adjust action last.
