so i listend to some necrophagist...
...and all i can say i wow! one listen to their album epitaph, and im fucking adicated
the rest of this post is gonna sound fucking pathetic, but whatever...
i feel like such a n00b and a moron...all that time i've been defending slipknot and their "talent" when there are so many more technically advanced bands. dont get me wrong, i still like them (altho somewhat less than i did before) and i still think mick is an awesome player. but jeez, i now realise how weak my arguments were for slipknot and their ability. necrophagist kicks the shit outta them.
i guess my musical taste has matured that bit extra today

i've been getting into death metal more lately and have been moving away from the other stuff i liked. i've been pretty high on nile and cryptopsy. necrophagist was a welcome adition, but now i need more of this shit, what other bands are similar to those bands i mentioned?
i feel like i've just heard music for the first time, this is a refreshing change and i want more.
i official retract any posts defending slipknot or any other crappy metal bands and i also retract any other posts bad mouthing the decent bands i've come to like. i also acknowledge that i thorougly deserved all the flaming i got for expressing my interest in slipknot and other bands.

Berzerker are highly technical, check out the songs 'Massacre' [For which we have a powertab here] and 'Compromise] Compromise is really fast string skipping craziness.

Psycroptic are very technical though not as much melody as those bands.
Gorguts' From Wisdom To Hate should do you. Not technical in a traditional sense, but fucked up, very interesting, and a nice insertion of melody through chaos.
And of course later day Cryptopsy though you knew that already.
Demilich perhaps? The production always slightly annoyed me but its fairly technical.

I'm not that into dm, and haven't realy gave necrophagist a listen yet, but that musical awakening you talked about, I know what you mean. I felt the same when I started listening to Opeth.

Defeated Sanity are just as technical as SoP in some parts, just crazy riffing. But their songs are even better. A must hear.
Domintion Through Impurity is a good example of how to write tech-as-fuck music that sends you to sleep. I listened to the thing twice before I got bored.

All I can say is:
Necrophagist own. There are more technical bands, but Necrophagist just feel so right compared to a lot of the other tech. death metal bands. Then again, Necrophagist are one of the only death metal bands I like.

I don't mean to sound like an obnoxious twat, but how could you defend slipknot's talent? I mean, seriously, how did you defend them when they only have two songs with leads in them, and they rap, and yea. I'm just wondering.

I never said they are great, and most of you already know, my favorite band and the band I listen to 90% of the time is Children of Bodom. I also like Kalmah, Norther, and Ensiferum. Arch Enemy have been growing on me lately. And Necrophagist kick major as on the death metal side as well.

I repented about four years ago. I used to like slipknot in seventh grade, I thought they were the heaviest band on earth.

That's one more than Psycroptic, and two more than Deeds Of Flesh.
So you see, having lots of leads automatically make bands talented and good.

capharnaum and arsis are pretty decent tech-death bands as well, tho not as amazing as some of the previously mentioned acts. also i've been meaning to pick some of martyr's stuff but it's so damn hard to find anymore.

Hell yes... I'm gonna have to grab me a bunch of new music. Never heard any music from alot of these bands, and you guys speak of it in comparison to necrophagist. That's enough for me.

I only bring it up so much because Necrophagist is brought up so much. I think Martyr and Spawn of Possession deserve more recognition, thats all. I can't remember once I randomly started talking about them in a topic they had no relevence to.

Kind of forgot about that band until recently. Been listening to them a lot. Very good band. Aussie too.
DEAD: The "oh oh" was more to do with the impending "I hate you Necrophagist are the greatest you idiot" replies I was expecting.
I find Necrophagist highly enjoyable, but I don't like them quite as much as I used to. Great band, but not quite as great as some make them out to be.

Martyr rules for technicality and songwriting, as much as i love necrophagist, i think Mongrain owns Suicmez. Spawn of Possession's pretty crazy too, just too much speed all the time. Someone mentioned Beneath the Massacre, i seen them live with decapitated a while back, they only have one 5 song album right now, but i cant stop listening to it all the time, lots of galloping goodness.

Fucking right, Martyr are awesome, I prefer them to Necrophagist, and alongside Cryptopsy, are my favorite Technical Death band.

Onset Of Putrefaction is also great of Necrophagist. The drums are fake and programmed, but the guitars are pretty sweet.
SPAWN OF POSSESSION is much much more technical though!!!! Jesus, atleast you can tab Necrophagist....SoP is just insane to try and tab.

Me and my friends are always on arguing on how to properly pronounce 'Necrophagist'... I still think it's (nee-crow-fay-jist)
And how the hell do you pronounce 'Suiçmez'

I'm not the only one who thinks the berzerker is technical :O! yes.
Anyway Slipknot are a good band, but you should really listen to a band before you slate it, i hate all the black metal i've heard but if someone tells me to listen to something i will before i make judgements.

interesting.... considering "necro" is sounded as, simply, nek-ro. your version reminds me of a, stereotypical, surfer dude saying "bro" as "brah".

Well, the biological word phagocyte (derived from the Greek phagein "to eat") was always pronounced fay-jo-site when I did biology back in the day. I never heard it pronounced far-go-site.
Remember, Muhamed is German.

I don't know anything about Latin let alone how German Latin would differ from English Latin, but I prefer to say Nek-ro-fay-jist, and it seems that it really doesn't matter how you say it anyway.

That's how I always pronounced it. Muhammed said it the same way at the beginning of the video. So it's settled then. Nek-ro-fay-jist. Or as Muhammed said... however you want.
I noticed he smokes. No... I don't bash smokers, I smoke too. But doesn't smoking make growling more difficult? It takes a toll on your throat and fucks up your lung capacity.

Muhammed shouldn't wear his cap back like that. He looks like Eminem with an abnormally large nose.
