but i want to know how do these bands achieve such heavy distorted sound.
all i basically know about distortion is that u use a setup like this
guitar----->disto pedal----->amp (clean/drive)
to get distortion
but i know this is wrong (or atleast not the only way to do it) coz i heard pepole talkin about amps with tube distotion, etc


could someone tell me basically how things should be setup (like what kind of an amp should be used, etc)

distortion is available on practically every guitar amp out there...there's no need for distortion pedals.

Some bands just go guitar----->amp. tube distortion isnt necessarily a kind of distortion. it simply refers to how amps are constructed...most cheaper amps are constructed with transistors, and are thus solid states. More expensive amps tend to be constructed with tubes in them, which are technically an inferior technology, but sound much better.

If you need a boost to your amps distortion,if the amps gain sounds like shit,if your amp hasnt got any gain to start with,or if U WaNT br00taL DeTH METUHL DIStortion!1!!!(3 DOD deth metuhls)LOL

so do amps also have effects like wow and phaser and feedback(echo) etc

It depends what amp you buy mate.... If you need a fuckload of effects, buy a POD and whack it in some cheap Marshall combo?

The real brutal distorted tone comes from some good Amps and good control and tones from the player.

If you experinment, for recording purposes you might not even need a big expensive, beefy amplifier. However if you want to play with a band and have tight clear distortion flow across the stage, spend some pennies on a valve amp, and dont be stingy like me.

tube amp. there are alot of threads on some of the less expensive amps available. if you have not played a tube amp go to your shop and play on one suggested in these forums im sure you will be impressed

Tube amps can sound like shit,too.
