melodic riffs

im supposed to jam with this dude tommorow and we've been wanting to make a melodic-ish band and i've been making some really shitty riffs lately. i play drums in a thrash band so going from that to this band is tough for me especially since im on guitar now. any tips on making some what melodic riffs (i dont have a piano player) and just any tips in general?

Harmony between tow guitars is very important element in melodic metal..also less power chord riffs and more lead riffs (harmonized by second guitar)

Thats a good explanation, also learn some scales, especially Minor.

It just takes a whole lot of playing around with, I find it quite easy on acoustic, but gets a bit harder on electric because i always get drawn into playing power chords.

Man, I get real sweaty after I wack my dong.
