midi footswitch
im thinking of buying an amp which requires one of these, and i know nothing about them.
i can't find any info online, or any for sale for this amp.
could i just find one with enough buttons, the correct connector and plug it in?
do i need to use a pc or something to program midi things?
do they switch quickly(i really dont want a slight delay between preesing the button and changing the channel)?
once it's set up, will i notice the difference from an analogue ftswtch (i'm not really bothered about changing variable settings live, just on/off functions)?
does it require seperate power, or will the amp power the pedal?
i know there is a thousand questions there, but please try to answer some of them at least

if the amp or fx unit or whatever you'r switching isnt midi capable, you'll have to get a unit that will make it.. like my engl z-11.
from the you shouldnt need a computer... i just step on the preset i want, then adjust the sounds and press the "write" button. it's all saved.
most situations the midipedal needs its own power. but say in my situation, the engl z-11 switcher actually powers the engl z-12 midi controller through the midi cable. alot of rocktron units do this as well.
you'll notice a difference in what you can do. with midi, you can tap a button and 10 things happen.

if your amp just has a midi input all you need is some standard MIDI thing, like a Ground Control or an FCB1010...
I'm trying to learn how to use MIDI with my effects processor...real pain in the ass. With amp channel switching/function activation it's easy though.

There is some software for the FCB1010 that allows you to program it from your computer, but obviously you've gotta have MIDI I/O on your computer. It isn't hard to program it by hand though, unless you're mucking around with multiple controller and program changes with expression pedals
