minor fret repair question

i have been using my old guitar for quite sometime now, without replacing any part. but the frets(only some) have got quite smaller in height due to string bending (i guess). so it gives a weired sound when the string is picked.....actually i have risen the strings quite high (from the bridge) as someone here told me to... but if i rise it any more the string gets too far from the neck play especially after the 12th fret)
so i wanted to ask ----> can i replace only the frets or do i have to replace the whole neck also i have heard of fret filers ...what are these

You can take your guitar to a guitar tech and get it refretted. But it sounds to me the buzzing might not be coming from worn frets, maybe just your action is out. What guitar is it,and what bridge/nut system you got?

actually its a yamaha guitar(i know ... i know)
its fuking low end but just wanted to keep it in shape
i m pretty sure the buzz(thts the word i was lookin for) comes from worn out frets coz i can see the string touching the next fret as well

PS ---by the way i just got an rg1570 too but havent touched it as my board exams are going on

Can you see visible wear on the frets?

dude i know exactly your pain with this fret problem. When I bought my Jackson on ebay earlier this year it was all perfect except one fret up towards the 17th. The notes just die when I try to play it. I tried hammering it down with a rubber mallet and that helped a tiny bit, but I would definitely say you need to refret at least that fret. most guitar shops charge a fuck load to refret...well at least around here...so maybe do it yourself? buy a shit neck online and refret the entire thing or a few frets...then you'll get the hang of it and can do it yourself.

Im not against the idea,im trying to help make sure you dont waste a shitload on re-fretting a decent neck.I was trying to make sure yo udont have your action set up like ass, because that causes buzz. But if you see visible damage, then take it to a luthier and get it fixed.

I don't think that guitar is worth spending a lot of money on dude. For the amount a refret would cost you, you can buy a new one. Just save up some cash and get you another guitar.

But if this guitar REALLY means that much to you, do what rapeandruin said.

Be careful, not trying to discourage you,but with modification on a guitar,it really matters what guitar it is beneath all the things that you add.For Instance,I once wanted to mod a older bc rich(super-strat) that I got for peanuts at a pawn shop.took it home, put in some emg's I had lying around, bought new saddles, nut, tuneing machine's,truss rod cover, output jack socket and shit.I didnt play it till it was done, still played like a piece of crap.It has a shitty neck, crappy body, poor sustain and shit.I didnt realise that I had to really make this another guitar-new neck, new hardware, strip the body, ect. Its not worth moding a shitty guitar!

What RG you swinging?

wow thanks for that.... coz i thought that the only thing that mattered really was the bridge and the pickup (ofcourse i knew about the wood and all but i thought all that was overrated)
anyway the least i can do for that poor ol' guitar is sand the motherfucker
