palm muted speed picking?
Sorry guys, i know this must have been covered a million times before but i was hoping someone could hook me up with a link or point me in the right direction.......
When palm muting on the one string, continueously picking up/down/up/down on the one note extremely fast (satyricon etc), does this come under the title of alternate picking? just a little confused
I have been trying to master this fast style of picking for some time now (with a fast drummer). I also especially find it difficult when bouncing from a single strummed note to 4 quick muted(down/up/down/up) notes then back to four clean strummed notes (down picked) then 4 quick muted and so on.........I hope this makes sense???
I find at times I start losing the grip of the pick which in turn sends my playing down the toilet......Could some of u guitar guns please point me in the right direction, much appreciated  |

to start off if you are playing the same note really fast then it would be tremolo'ish picking...like

like that...the zeros...the first is an 8th then 3 sixths in a row...
for losing your pick while playing...I'd suggest getting a bigger pick. I switched to those triangle type picks and I hardly ever lose control of the pick now. Switch between clean and palm muted play just comes with time. The more you practice, the better you get obviously. |

I managed to pick up fast PMing in a month after I got my first guitar. From Fear Factory, as well. Get in the Archetype album. That's where I learned it all. It's slow, but if you persist, you will succeed. I'm doing 20bps at the moment. And don't push it, you will injure yourself. I got all sorts of strains and syndromes overdoing it. Stamina comes gradually.

I got into speedpicking from old fear factory, and slayer. They help quite a bit I would say.
You might want to try to carve X's into your pics, that helps too.
As far as getting it down, just pick open notes all over and variate between running excerises up and down the neck to help synchronize yourself better.....but SLOWLY.
It takes time but with practice, you will nail it.

I also switched into rounded triangle picks and everything is much easier now, especially speed picking and fast down picking. I never drop my pick anymore and I got a more firm grip now.
What I found out to be the easiest wayto learn howe to play fast speed picking while muting is to practice fast down picking, muted of course. Because basically itīs the same teachnique You use when speed picking and down picking. And itīs easier to be more accurate and tight when down picking. Thatīs how I do it.

Learn Deicide's "Scars of the Crucifix" and it will boost your tremolo picking ability a fuckload.
