I read the book, its really detailed, before I watched the movie. It was good to watch, after I understood what happened. The movie follows only, like you said,a general story-line of what happened.Though,I think it was really good how they portrayed some soldiers, based on what they actually did that day.Though, its not cool how they change the details to make the film more 'watchable'.

Has anyone seen "Bloody Sunday" here? Directed by Paul Greengrass. It's a dramatisation of something that happened in N.Ireland. It tries to be as true to the real thing as possible, and the "drama" suffers a bit as a result, but I'd prefer that than a load of explosions and car chases to be thrown in for the sake of it. It's still pretty good regardless, but maybe I'm biased 'cause I'm from N.Ireland lol.
You can download it with eMule or something similar if you're interested, because I don't know how available it is to other countries...
Anyone seen "Straw Dogs"? I found it to be overrated in terms of brutality, but not a bad flick anyways. Same with the Exorcist...good film, but by no means the scariest. I personally reckon Hellraiser kicks its arse.
Scorsese is one of the best directors. When him, DeNiro and Pesci get together you'll never be disappointed hehe. Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino...classics.
I'm just about to watch Nightbreed here. Midian, n'all that. The inspiration for the Cradle of Filth album. Oh yeah, "Cradle of Fear" isn't a bad movie! Dani Filth and Co. chopping folks up for 1:45. Can't go wrong!

That horror film described a few pages back, that somebody or other wanted to know the name of, is Wrong Turn. I hated that movie, but at least by watching it I was able to help somebody out.
Bloody Sunday's been distributed in America, even more since Greengrass was chosen for the Bourne sequel.
I couldn't care less how accurate Black Hawk Down was. What Ridley Scott's movies are about is never important so long as he can do what he pleases.
Favorite directors:
Orson Welles
Stanley Kubrick
Alain Resnais
Andrei Tarkovsky
David Lynch
Werner Herzog
Peter Greenaway
Terrence Malick
Akira Kurosawa
Nagisa Oshima
Hal Hartley
Alfred Hitchcock
Ingmar Bergman
That may be about it. Or I may be forgetting someone.
Oh. I know who I forgot: Joel and Ethan Coen.

I don't think there would be much point to watching a Kubrick flick stoned. It would probably just be scary, or silly, or something.

I thought The Devils Advocate was great. I love the roles Pacino plays. He is such a great actor. Snatch is great too....all the characters in the that movie crack me up...especially Pitt as the Pikey....crazy bastards.
Oh...and a word of warning. Stay away from The Devils Rejects....it was gory...but it was just plain fucking stupid!!!

Yeah! Damn good film. DeNiro in top form as usual, had me gripped all through the movie.
"Nil by Mouth" anyone? Gary Oldman's directorial debute, based loosely on his own upbringing from what I hear. That chap Ray Winstone is intense...he's an expert at psychotic roles, right up there with DeNiro. Pretty bleak film, just the way I likes 'em
"Made in Britain" is something in a similar vein...the directorial debute of Gary Oldman's mate, Tim Roth. Tim Roth plays a delinquent skinhead nazi type of fella. There's a cameo role from the dude who played Frank in Hellraiser, he's a counseller in this one hehehehe. Hmm, never really see him in many movies...
"Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" - Gary Oldman & Tim Roth together! Fuckin' bizzare movie...
Fuck, went off on a tangent there...
DeNiro!!!!!!

Just saw Layer Cake which was quite good, similar
to the Snatch and The Machinist which was very
good(about a guy who has insomnia and starts losing it).
The guy in the movie(I think he also played in American Psycho)
was really convincing

I Heart Huckabees
Shaun of the Dead
Haven't seen Jarhead yet. I like Jake though.

Are these fairly easy to get your hands on. Like if I walked over to Rogers or Blockbuster would they be likely to have them or is it one of those things that are near impossible to find outside of the internet? They sound interesting especially the second one.

Basket Case rules! The guy's "mutant blob brother" was actually a birth abnormality - conjoined twins. Although his brother was just a huge blob on the site of his stomach with tiny arms and a mouth. They cut him off at a young age, but he grabs him out of a dumpster and keeps him and eventually has him kill everyone that was involved, things go downhill, etc. The best part is when "it" rapes that girl.

You can find that shit at any decent rental place. Not Blockbuster, since it's owned by people whose sense of morality restricts the kinds of films it stocks - though the business sense allows them to loosen this to a fairly reasonable extent. I don't complain.
Damn. I thought The New World is coming out tomorrow, but it's coming out next Friday. Damn. Anybody else excited by this? I expect Dylan to be if he knows Malick at all. Everybody else should be too. The guy makes too few movies for each not to be celebrated.

Read the book.
Albert Blithe (episode 3) didn't die of his wounds. In the episode "Breaking Point" it shows the Hay Bale that Lt. Dyke was cowered behind take a mortor shot - you get the impression Dyke dies, in real life he doesn't. Also, after that episode Colonel Strayer seems to vanish from the war, it's never revealed what happens to him. In the episode "Bastogne" in the scene with Gen. McCaullife, he swears, Gen. McCaullife (apparently) never swore, in the same episode - Eugene Roe's 'friendship' with the Belgian nurse - the character did exist in real life, but she was never stationed at Bastogne at any point in the war, neither was the Congolese nurse.....I could go on, for quite a while actually.....but I won't.
In episode "crossroads" - the british commander is a Brig. Gen. - a rank that hadn't existed in the British army since the 20's...
..stopped now.....but the inconsistencies do continue

"Night of the Lepus" was cool. And "Them!" about the giant ants was so bad it was great! Their eyes had us rolling.
Those old Bela and Boris movies were cool. And later on, the Shepperton Studios "b" movies in the 60's and 70's were good for a laugh even though they were supposed to be scary.

Haha I remember when I was little kid, I got caught burning a pile of leaves outside a church. I managed to talk my way out of it, but I never burned piles of leaves outside churches ever again!

That movie kicks major ass but my favourite thing about it is the noise that the "real" Orgazmarator makes. that it hilarious.

The Thin Red Line was the only thing he directed in our lifetime.
Cache is out. I'm going to see it later today. It should rule somewhere around one hundred times as much as a conversation about egging and being badass posted in my goddamn movie thread.

Has anyone seen Munich? Is it worth shelling out eight bucks or whatever the movie tickets cost nowadays?

"Don't Say A Word" is a good movie. I bought it the other day--it's got Mike Douglous and Sean Bean in it.

LOL well, any normality I might have had was certainly washed away after seeing that. Personally, I thought the shit-banquet was the worst (or should I say best?) scene, including the scene directly before it...the preperations where the victims had to stop themselves from taking a dump, to build up a nice ripe supply for the feast...*shudders*. And the stories from the hooker about how her clients liked peasent women's excrement more, because of the terrible diet and the illnesses...AND, when one of the Facists was forcing shit into the mouth of the boy next to him, saying something to the effect of "I like to kiss a man with strong oder on his breath". Jesus...I know there's an strong artistic side to this stuff, but it's kinda hard to think in those terms when you watch it.
The scene at the end was pretty well done I thought...i.e. watching the tortures/executions from a distance. Pretty good special effects too, considering the age/budget of the film.
Disturbing stuff! 10/10

It's an adaptation of de Sade's sickest work, so you know it's good!
It doesn't hurt to know what the Salo Republic was and why the parallels would have come to Pasolini's mind, who usually just celebrated life. Even his Jesus movie celebrated life, which is strangely rare.

Haha, The Aristocrats is just making it to Australia. It got banned in some theaters here, despite the fact that there's no sex or violence in it, just talking. Funny fuckin' world.

Sao Paolo's supposed to be worse than Rio, and a few other big South American slums are supposed to be worse. That said, I don't know shit except that there are terrible ghettos in a lot of the world, and I doubt that film was the most extreme.
Saw The New World today. I won't even bother going into how great it is. I'll just say that it's better than your mother, despite being 'about' Pocahontas.

the "favelas", squatter cities outside sao paulo and rio de janeiro, havent seen city of god but that shit is for real. brazil is a very violent place, thats why the matial arts over there developed effectively
anyone see the "passion of christ". its like they combined a gore/slasher angle with the persecution of christ. i have a theory that they expected people to laugh at certain points, usually when christ is getting bitch slapped around, thats why you see the fugly looking dudes and wierd shit immediately after. the movie has all these wierd moments, subtle digital effects and is so odd and not what i expected at all that i found it interesting to watch. im not into christianity, and the things i like about this movie is not how they adapted the biblical account, nor even the hour long lashing session for its brutallity, its just the way the director/cinematographer injected these almost hieronymous bosch like ugly faces to laugh with you when christ is getting beaten and stuff, and the aramiac language with the latin is cool, hard shit to do to speak a couple dead languages. i dont know, i thought i was gonna hate this movie but its too wierd to hate.

Eh, it was just bad. Jesus has had a bunch of good movies and probably didn't deserve to be shat on like that. But that's what happens when you let simple-minded actors direct. Getting Caleb Deschanel and telling him to channel Renaissance painting was a good move, but if you don't understand art history - and Mel doesn't - it's an empty gesture to quote paintings.
I expect Apocalypto to be similarly bad, especially since, as much as I don't like to be hammered over the head with 'JESUS DIED FOR YOU! FOR YOU, YOU SELFISH FUCKHOLE!' rhetoric, I dislike the 'The pro-choice attitude in this country is creating a culture of death that will rot our civilization from the inside out' bullshit even more. Plus I don't understand the arbitrary decision to make the 'original language' Spanish. It might as well be in English.
To be honest, I wish Mel Gibson wasn't allowed to direct. He has a boring vision and the means to foist it on the world.
Incidentally, you'll get better grotesque and ugly faces in a Pasolini flick. The man had a talent for picking out faces for minor actors. He also did a much better Jesus movie. Jesus as a frustrated prophet, increasingly angry as his word gets ignored.
