I didn't like it much. Everything's dumbed down too much. But the chase scenes, which is like the last half or 2/3 of the movie, are pretty effective. In the cinema the HD photography looked like shit (which is weird, because it doesn't need to look so much like video when it comes to depth of field and the speed people appear to move if you know what you're doing), but that make much less of a difference on a small screen. I'd say rent it if you're at all interested, since it's no huge investment of time or money.
But I do think it's a pretty crappy movie.

Rented it last night. It's not too bad IMO. Could have been better but there were some pretty damn sweet parts.

that movie was fun to watch.
My friend plays a game with his friends where they take a drink of their beer everytime somebody drinks.
I think it would be better if everybody picked a character and whenever THAT character drinks you drink... that would be more realistic

A dear, longtime net friend in England told me that he just saw The Simpson's Movie and it's fabulous. I may just be able to get the ole man and kid to go see it soon at an actual theater.

jesus christ, this thread is still going?
L,B'XXX - The Simpsons Movie isn't that much to shout about to be honest. Imagine the past few seasons with the 3-7 season writers and the diminishing vocal talents, (face it kids, Homer isn't what he used to be).
The whole film just seems like an episode for current seasons they couldn't actually do in half an hour, it kinda drags out if you get me.

Heard from a friend of mine that Gladiator is a good film. What do you guys think about it? Need to know because I plan on getting unlimited rentals from Block Buster soon.

Just rent it. Like almost every other Ridley Scott movie it's incredibly well directed and almost laughably written, and therefore best seen on a big screen. But, really, a rental at Blockbuster's cheap as balls; you don't need a recommendation to check one out there. Just check it out.

That's basically what the new Simpsons episodes are like anyways, definately not as good as they used to be.
I just watched Metal : A Headbangers Journey. Great documentary, not fantastic, but still great IMO.

So Ingmar Bergman died. And it's Arnold Schwarzenegger's birthday. Coincidence?
Anyway, it's good to see that Bergman, like Altman, continued to make movies until around the time he died.

I don't know why so many people are ripping on The Simpsons movie, and I don't just mean on this forum... local newspaper reviews say it was weak. I thought it was awesome.

little miss sunshine
its cool and funny. although.... i cant fucking stand the "beauty pageant" bullshit. its completely pointless, untill the girl, and her family go up, THEN its funny. i mean, did we really need to watch any of the parts before it? maybe like a few clips, but whatever.
it really makes me laugh, when they are driving, and the bearded guy (evan something) is making the "sarcastic" replies, to the driver
"a time bomb auction"
"oaahh, how about that" (then the disapproving head shake) hahaha.

Transformers SUCKED. It was not the nerdfest goof shit it is suppose to be. Bullshit romantic comedy focusing on humanity. Who gives a shit? If I go to see robots fuck each other up, I DON'T want to see some Disney child b-actor and some slutbag hooking up. I don't give a fuck. Punching Michael Bay right in the fucking throat.

Rush hour wasn't that bad, it's a good comedy to see when there is nothing to do and it suits pretty well for a rainy day. Like old James Bond and old Jacky Chan movies.
I want to watch some classic movie...I really don't know what I should see...Do you guys can give me some tips? like, few names like that?

What kind of "classic" movie? Horror? Comedy? Drama? Gangster? etc...

I see the original Hellraiser is being remade, with Clive Barker writing the screenplay. Are there any Hellraiser fans here, and if so, whatcha reckon about this remake business? I personally feel that because Barker is writing it, it may not suck as badly as most remakes. Then again, remakes are all the rage these days and it could end up being another conveyor belt McMovie of a shambles.
I really liked the original, but the low budget they obviously had kinda shows in many places, especially the special effects. They've got a huge budget this time around, and Barker has mentioned that he refuses to go down the CGI-soaked, fit-inducing, strobe bollocks route as is done so often with modern movies, which is music to my ears!
I'm actually looking forward to it, mainly because the story's creator is playing a central role again. Have there been any other remakes like that? That is, remakes that were written/directed/produced/whatever by the people who held the same positions on the original?
Another of Clive Barker's stories is currently in post production, "The Midnight Meat Train". I read the short story it's based on, and it should be pretty enjoyable for horror fans hehehe. Although it stars Vinnie Jones, so fuck knows what it'll be like. I haven't seen him act in anything besides "hard psycho" roles.

I forgot Trainspotting. It isn't old but it's still a fucking classic in my opinion. Fucking awesome movie if you have no problem understanding heavy Scottish accents.

Duuuuuude. Mulholand Drive is such an awesome movie! So much gratuitous girl on girl action in that movie, it's unbelievable. It's borderline porn. Didn't understand what the fuck was going on with it, but I didn't let a little thing like plot stop me from enjoying two hot babes getting it on.

BTW, 300 is easily one of the greatest movies of all times! I've probably watched it 300 fucking times hahahaha.
Any good movies coming out this week? I know War just came out, but I can foresee that movie beeing completely retarded. Should be some intereting action scenes in it, though.

Watched "Wild Hogs" today, bloody funny film! I was surprised, I really enjoyed it!
I rather liked "300", I got really pissed off with some reviews though saying it was historically innacurate etc... It wasn't suppsoed to be damn it!
Aside from that it was an entertaining "Bad-assery" film, it wasn't meant to be an epic so it's ok in my books!
Just watched "Romper Stomper" as well, surprisingly good film, I was amazed with Crowe's performance, he did it rather well! Waiting to see "This Is England" now, on a "skinhead-trip" I suppose.

Yes, excellent film, get it now. I recently lent this to a colleague, and he said he enjoyed it so much that he was buying himself a copy from amazon while the credits were rolling.
It's the second part of Pak-Tsun Ho's (spelling might be off, I'm writing it from memory) revenge trilogy. The first part is "Sympathy for Mr Vengeance", and the third is "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". They are not sequels though, so you don't have to watch them in any particular order. Of those two, I'd say Lady Vengeance is better - and possibly better than Oldboy, but it's a tough call.

Taxi driver is a fucking classic! Loads of cool one-liners as well.
Just watched Magnolia and Training Day. Magnolia is cool, training day is pretty lame. One of those movies to watch with a load of beer and friends whilst having a good conversation about silicone titties.

Man, I took out Idiocracy after getting it recommended to me by a friend who kept talking up the premise and a few of the jokes, and it was truly amazing how poor a job they did with a potentially great premise. Incompetence in execution really can mean a lot.

Just back from Eastern Promises. I think I'd have loved it had I not gone in with the expectations I have for a Cronenberg movie. But it was very, very good and I recommend it to everybody here who likes violence, tattoos, and Russian accents.

I think that was Viggo's best performance. I didn't like the movie quite as much as 'A History of Violence', but he was outstanding.

He and Mueller-Stahl were both incredible.
But that reminds me of one of the other major attractions of Eastern Promises: some red hot Viggo penis.

I have seen Mueller-Stahl in another film, but I've browsed over imdb and cannot for the life of me remember what it was. Yeah he was great aswell.
Going to see 3:10 to Yuma later. I have high expectations for this film, mainly because of Bale.

'3:10 to Yuma' was great, and I usally hate westerns.
Anyway, saw two movies last night.
'La Haine': I really liked this movie. Vincent Cassel is a superb actor.
'Bug': Good, but nothing exceptional.

The Condemned: horrible. flawed movie in many ways, ofcourse there's some cool action and the big american guy kills everyone and wins.
Idiocracy: crap.
Delta Farce: a movie to watch when you're drinking beer with a bunch of friends. I wouldn't advise watching this sober. I had a good laugh about it though. Making fun of your Iraq efforts is allways a bit more fun for us I guess.
Death Proof: cool movie with great filming that provides a great vibe, a hommage to the highway horror movie!
On the other hand, anyone seen Blackbook? It's earned yet another award over here. I love Paul Verhoeven's movies. I don't think it's as good as Soldaat van Oranje (1977) though.
If you liked blackbook, check out Soldier of Orange, it's won a golden globe back in the day and it's still considered as one of the best Dutch movies from the 20th century.

Saw Death Proof (meant to see Grindhouse in the wild 100's when I was still in Chicago but didn't have the time). I liked it all right but felt it had way too much pointless talking. I also didn't much like the switch in the second half to HD; obviously it was all shot in HD or Tarantino couldn't have served as DP, but the first half replicated the film 'look' not just in obvious ways like the muted colors and the artificial scratches, but also the focal depth.
I keep meaning to see La Haine.
3:10 to Yuma really was great. I went back and re-watched the original after I saw it and definitely prefer the remake. The ending really does it for me.
Lust, Caution should be around here soon. Also No Country for Old Men.

death proof is boring especially when you see the first part of Grindhouse. Too much talking and non-sens parts...BUT camera angle and ''catch of sight'' dunno how to say it in english are really good and the ending is very nice!!!

I'm not sure, but from what I've looked up I think that 'catch of sight' sounds like 'frame' in English, but I'm not sure it makes sense to divide camera angle and framing. Plus I found one site that discusses the principle of framing 'several catches of sight down,' which I don't understand. So I'm doubting my own guess. Would you mind saying it in French? A lot of French phrases have made it into film theory and for that reason the English word for the same was either forgotten or never invented.
About 3/4 of the way through The Last Emperor. Its beauty is only surpassed by how boring it is.

Mr. Brooks is a pretty decent movie! Went to the cinema yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. Very good acting in it imho.

Yeah, the general consensus on that one seems to be that it was all around a horrible fucking movie, but kind of neat to look at.
I really want to see 3:10 to Yuma, with those actors I don't think you can go wrong.
Oh, I also want to see the new Clive Owen movie. Did anyone else absolutely LOVE Children of Men?
And hiiiiiii.

'Children of Men' was great.
I just went to 3:10 again and it was better than the first time I saw it. Bale and Crowe are great but Ben Foster shines in his role, which really suprised me.
Nice to see you around Dame.
