Finally saw "The Graduate" last night. That movie is so fucking kick ass. I had no idea it was gonna be that funny. I heard it was good and i thought it was.
Its a movie that was made in like 67 about this guy who graduates college and he starts sleeping with his dads business partners wife, and eventually he is forced to go on a date with her daughter and ends up falling for her.
It was genius the entire movie.

ha, that movie does kick ass.
friday afternoon i watched killer clowns from outer space. i had heard it was the worst movie ever, but i have to disagree. while it was pretty damn terrible..it was definitely a step above many of the movies i would put in the running for the title of worst movie ever. maybe because it looked like they actually invested SOME money into making it not horribly bad. on the other hand, they passed up a perfect opportunity for some nip, bush..or even some ass. so for that...i must say "thumbs down"

I can't explain how much I hate that movie. Cliche, poorly and cheaply presented [in terms of message, not cinematography], poor acting, cheesy scenes, and a ridiculous hcain of events as far as the monkeydude living with them and shit.
imo

Fay Grim opened and I saw it and it ruled all sorts of balls. Then I saw INLAND EMPIRE for the second time, and it ruled all sorts of non-linear geometries of balls. In all it was a ball-ruling day.

That movie's great. It's not supposed to come across as well made, it's just stupid, immature entertainment.

Sounds like a bad idea.
If you think Gerry's boring, you should try the films of Bela Tarr. Real endurance testers. At the same time, much more rewarding than anything Gus Van Sant's managed. Though, of his Tarr knock-offs I've seen, I'd say Gerry worked the best.

WHAT!?!?!? Are you retarded?!?!?! I just saw this movie... and it's the biggest pile of bullshit that I've seen since the last rodeo was in town. It's terrible, especially the ending. Jesus Christ, I still can't believe I rented it... what a waste of $4.79

I liked the 1st and 3rd of the Cube films, the splendid ways of dying was probably the main reason
Watched 28 Weeks Later and kinda enjoyed it though those 2 brats annoyed me and I wanted them to fuck of the screen and let the zombi....er I mean 'infected' come on and wreak havoc. A bit of arty symbolism with the riding through graveyards and I won't even draw parallels with the US army fucking up on the Isle of Dogs and Baghdad
It was good at the end to see that the Brits had finally exported something to France that could actually harm them and it wasn't our beef or lamb!!!
The only thing that really worried me about the whole experience was that the 'hero' white US soldier looked like daytime TV smarmer and holier than though domestic disturbance defuser Jeremy Kyle

Cube was great. Clever idea with amazing tensions built using a single, very spare set; if the acting and the non-structural writing wasn't particularly good, they got carried by the strength of the concept. The sequels both sucked.

I searched for his movies at the videoclub, didn't find any.
Saw Pretty Village,Pretty Flame yesterday, very good and quite funny at parts.
Also The Andalusian Dog was great, only 17 minutes but it had great images.
About Cube the first two I liked but Cube Zero sucked big time

Just watched Citizen Kane. I was expecting something absolutely brilliant, and although it's an excellent film, I hardly think it's one of the 'greatest films of all time' as many have claimed it to be.

alot of the high praise it gets is due to the film industry politics around the movie.
i think its a good movie, despite the hype

Not so much the film industry politics as the fact that it's basically a one-film revolution in film form and the only film which Orson Welles, who's in retrospect one of the few truly great directors to ever live, finished without finances or film studio politics getting in the way. But it's not even his best movie, falling victim in some ways to the unrestrained exuberance that produced it (which makes it even more of a shame that it's the only film over which Welles had total control), so it shouldn't be a surprise that it's not, actually, the greatest film ever made. It's more like the film that made most of the greatest films ever made possible.
But you do have to realize that most revolutionary films, if they really are revolutionary, seem tame when you come back to them now. Every innovation that made the film a significant one got completely absorbed by the everyday vocabulary, like the phrases invented by Shakespeare that now seem so commonplace. It's a testament to a film to get so absorbed that it no longer seems remarkable; but, of course, that doesn't make the actual act of watching any more enjoyable.
Had to watch a lot of Ozu lately. Read a lot of comparisons between him and Bresson, and they do seem similar in that their austere simplicity produces a handful of images of incredible power, which seems to do more to impress aspiring directors than to affect your average audience member. That is to say, the technique of economy seems in both to attract attention to itself in a way attractive/useful to people trying to think their way through their own films. The major difference, for me, is that watching a film by Bresson is like getting a lecture from a celibate Frenchman, and watching a film by Ozu is like spending a pleasant evening with a warm old man who kindly and quietly listens to you complain, knowing your complaints amount to nothing and that life is disappointing. Which is to say that I like Ozu and don't care too much for Bresson.

All pretty good, Lady in the Water being the best. I hope to see the new Tranformers movie soon.

Downloaded a heap of movies as I now have some spare time and willingness. Today I watched Pulp Fiction and The Virgin Suicides. Both were good movies imo, with Pulp Fiction being the better one of the two. Am slightly biased to The Virgin Suicides as I love the soundtrack, but I have a feeling others here will not share my opinion of it.

i've heard the usualy internet bullshit...it was great..it sucked...but one thing i heard that sounds pretty impartial is that the product placement in the movie was rampant. i loved the old cartoon..i'll check out the movie..but not sure if i'll go to see it or just download it. i don't really give a shit about things like "oh bumblebee was a VW not a whatever the fuck he is now..camaro?

I haven't seen it yet, but it seems like it would be pretty pointless to see Transformers on a computer screen. It's a Michael Bay movie, so pretty much everything of value is likely to be in the action visuals, so I'll definitely try and see it on a big screen if I'm going to see it. And I think I am.

I saw it the other night. I thought it was highly impressive. Visuals especially.
Right now i'm drinking some jack and coke and watching Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind. Without a doubt one of my favorite movies.

It was pretty good....definately not one of my favs.
I saw Thank You For Smoking yesterday. I thought it was a very well made satire. Rob Lowe's character was a true badass.
I also watched Fritz the Cat which is the first animated film to ever recieve an X rating....pretty damn entertaining. Aside from all the animal orgies and drug use, the movie actually did pose some interesting philisophical questions.

i've heard mixed reviews about that transformers movie..but i guess that how it goes. i also heard the product placement in that movie is a bit overboard.
got wayne's world coming in the mail today from netflix.

Les Triplettes de Belleville
I was almost entranced by the beauty of this film. It's animated, there's barely any talking (no, it is NOT trying to get the cult-label desperately, unlike shite like Ultranova), it is almost heart-warming. Wonderfully crafted.
I would recommend this to ANYONE. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

This is very true, product placement is a bit overboard... But hey, that's what they needed to get enough funds for the movie. I heard they're starting with the sequel in september!
Bumblebee wasn't a VW New Beetle because VW wouldn't lend them the rights.. Fags.
But if you pay attention during the movie you'll notice a worn-out beetle getting pounded by bumblebee in the car lot That's a nice way to get back at VW, hehe.
I really enjoyed the movie, great visuals. Not much of a storyline but fuck that, it's transformers. Kind of a shame they didn't do more with the decepticon/autobot characters, they didn't really go in-dept and most of them barely spoke.
If you guys all walked off when the credits started you missed out on Starscream escaping back to Cybertron!!
Tonight I'm watching Layer Cake. Just saw Zwartboek (Blackbook?) as well. Pretty cool but not as good as Soldaat van Oranje. (don't know if it was ever released outside of Holland.)

Yeahi did notice that. You don't see the decipticons for shit. You don't even see all of them until the end, only one or 2 here and there.

Well, you get to see a lot of Frenzy but he's fucking lame.
Blackout (the pave low chopper) and Brawl (tank) owned in the movie.
Didn't see much of Barricade and Starscream. Megatron was still in Cybertron form so that was pretty lame. He's dead anyway so we'll probably get Galvatron in the next movie

transformers
too much unnecessary character development in the first hour.
sam and that hot chick could of been total strangers who's paths meet somewhere in the first hour mark, it wouldnt of made a difference.
the army guys should of been wiped out in quatar or whereever.
let the autobots do the fighting.
once the action picked up, it was good.
if they wanted to do a romantic subplot, they should of got the female autobot RC and worked her in with bumblebee or some shit.
would of been much cooler, granted you arent gonna get the obligatory full movie cleavage like we did from that high school chick.
its wierd how that shit is standardized into filmaking, something like cleavage, or a revealing outfit on a hot chick that is intentionally maintianed thruout the movie.
overall it was a cool.

The movie being childish has nothing to do with it being good or not. Harry Potter is one series I could never get into. Read the books when I was in fifth grade.

Shit man. I could (and normally would) post the ultimate spoiler.
But I love the way you talk. DAMN.
So yeah, everyone: Les Triplettes de Belleville!

Watching Lost in Translation. This is definitely one of the better movies i've seen. Bill Murray is probably my favorite actor and this movie is a good example of why.

1408 has been the best movie out of all the ones I've watched this year.
Saw the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. It was funny but nothing compared to the television show.

Watched the new harry potter earlier.
It was pretty good, but it wasn't as good as the others. There wasn't enough resolution i think at the end of the movie. It was one of those movies that was needed to just add complexity and further the plot.

Harry Potter is one of the shittiest things to come from the UK.
It was fun to read the books while in fourth grade but after that it just isn't worth reading. If you want to read about magic. Read "Lord of The Rings."

Saw Ratatouille today, then walked into a theater showing Transformers. Pixar never disappoints. Michael Bay always does, but this was still probably his best movie.

I watched Transformers with my girlfriend on Friday. It was on a digital projection screen, which made it look even more incredible. I did enjoy it overall because I used to be a huge Transformers nerd.

Recently seen Pirates of the Caribbean 3. God that movie did not hold water. The story went to shit. It seems like the old man telling the epic tales of the high seas was pulling these stories out his ass. They, in no way, seem to 'fit' - on a better note, I recently seen 300, and that movie kicked ass!!

Those are definitely all movies. Let us know if you think of others.
The title Black Snake Moan just makes me think that the film is about Jackson fucking Ricci, even though I know that isn't the case.
Just heard the story about how Tarkovsky had to re-shoot Stalker completely with a different DP because the original footage, along with the negatives, of the film was all destroyed. That's fucking incredible. That's just so goddamned unbelievable.

Yeah sure thing...
I should have added (as if it wasn't obvious) that those are my favorite movies, not just random movie titles. But I'm high and lazy and don't feel like going in to detail

Hard Candy
Well, my suspension was long... but I managed to pull myself through it while keeping my sanity and staying sober
Anyways... Just watched "Hard Candy" the other night. I had never heard of it until I was in the video store and my girlfriend started reading the back, she told me it looked good so I decided to rent it. When I got home I noticed it's distributed by Maple (Who also distributed the whole 'Saw' series) So I knew it had to be good.
For those of you who don't know anything about it and want to know more, there is some info here.. Great movie, pretty fucking twisted and funny in some parts.

Just saw Sunshine. All I can say is that I'm very, very impressed. It's not 2001 or Solaris in depth or genius, but it's easily the best sci fi film in years.

Is that the one where they go on a mission to the Sun for some reason? Something very vague was sparked in my mind about a space mission when I read that post and I remember thinking a while back that it might be a decent film to get on DVD once it hits the sales.

The sun's dying and they're sent to explode a bomb that will hopefully cause a chain reaction resulting in a new star. That aspect of it, and much of the science, was conceived in conjunction with people from NASA, so it's fairly scientifically accurate. Other parts aren't (for example, Cillian Murphy reaches out his hand and touches the surface of the sun, though it's not clear if he's actually still alive at this point), but, like I said, it's in the tradition of Solaris and 2001, so it's at least partially mystical. And it's a movie, and some of the visual treats just wouldn't have been as great without a certain degree of freedom there.
I'd recommend seeing it in theaters, though, if possible. Visually it's just incredible. In around a month I'll be able to see 2001 in theaters as well, so I'll have a good point of comparison, but this is pretty spectacular.

Yeah, there'll be an open air cinema event over here, and 2001 plus The Good The Bad and The Ugly are among the films that'll be shown. I'll definitely try and catch them on the bigscreen.

Yeah. I'll soon be back in Rochester, where we have the Dryden Theater, which is a film lover's wet dream in a lot of ways. Oddly enough, I just checked and, the day before 2001, they'll be playing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. They had Once Upon a Time in the West on my birthday, but I couldn't make it. Morriconne series.
They're going to have Days of Heaven on August 3rd, which I also can't make, which is a massive shame, since that's one of the most beautiful movies ever made and the last time I saw it on 35mm I dissolved through the seat and into the primordial ooze and discovered myself 4 days later cradled high in the crotch of a sitka spruce in Tongass national forest. Which was, admittedly, quite weird.

I always liked the remake of Planet of the Apes better than the original.
I'm thinking of renting Apocalypto. Does anyone know if it's any good or not?
