The Passion of the Christ is a piece of shit. Jesus really deserved a better movie, and fortunately has several, with The Gospel According to St. Matthew probably being the best. Gibson wants you dumb and compliant and willing to chow down on a turd because he melted some cheese on top and put it on a bun with lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo, and ketchup.
War never was like that, so how could it still be?
Just saw Zodiac. Good. Will post more later.

Bullshit, I've read the bible, many times over and that movie is identical to what the accounts have. I was amazed I didn't get lynched at the movie theater though, considering I was wearing a Dark Funeral shirt. People looked at me with pretty much hateful gazes.

Really? The Bible simplifies the entire, fairly rich and complex, Judeo-Christian cosmology to the blood spurting out of some single individual's chiaroscuro'd brow? It essentially narrates the story of Christ in a manner that would be no different had he been some other of the thousands of unlucky fucks brutally and wrongly executed by the Romans? Just because the dialog and events are the same doesn't mean that it's remotely 'faithful,' and if your many readings of the Bible you couldn't get any deeper than Mel did in that film you deserve to love such a shitty, bleached out version.

Anyone read the Graphic Novel? I know I'll probably see the movie, but I'm wondering if there is much of a difference... besides one moves and the the other doesn't.

I watched Casino Royal......the first chase scene is spectacular. My only critique is that the movie should be less about Texas Hold 'em.... I fuckin hate the new poker fad. Anyways, the new bond kicks the shit outa Pierce Brosdan or whatever. Who agrees?
Also, i wathced 15 minutes of the science of sleep. that movie sucked balls. it woulda been better to trip acid to and be on mute while having a good conversation, but the dialog in the movie is fuckin terrible.
I'm going to get: the life aquatic and rushmore soon. both, i need to see, desperatley.

this 300 movie has me concerned, the reviews are nasty to say the least.
people are making political metaphors out of the whole deal with the middle east wars, accusing the film of racism and total historical distortion. even tho its from a comic, the history itself is handled carelessly and in the attempt to capture the comics overstylization..........its massively offensive to iranians and greeks alike.
the story itself is a hollywood hole-in-one and this movie seems like it would be real hard to fuck up.
ill see it when it hits the dollar theatres.

Watched Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room a couple of weeks ago. It's quite a good documentary for the layman that describes the scandal reasonably well, although I would have liked to have known a bit more with regards to Andersen's (the auditor of Enron) involvement over and above shredding audit files.
It didn't go into the sort of detail that would allow me to scream much more personal expletives at Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling for making me learn the Enron-induced Sar-Box legislation, International Financial Reporting Standards and International Audit Standards, but nevertheless it gives a good insight into the arrogance of the directors and a shocking account of the firm's involvement in the California blackouts.
Good stuff, coming highly recommended to anybody with an interest in business and how corporate bodies are run (badly in this case).

War movies has always been an offensive to the other party and that is a fact. Im not going to elaborate it here because its a sensitive issue plus lets stay in the topic.
Lets say that if im a comic artist and one day i bumped to an interesting history in National Geographic channel. Got myself inspired and coincidentially i have my own ideas that if combined it could be the story that im looking for. Therefore i wrote the comic and trademarked it as my own and in other words, its my story not his-tory. Considering that ive read Franks graphic novel and watched the movie, i think if im Frank Miller i would be very astounded and impressed with the results.

seems like i gotta watch this shit and see for myself.

So we're gonna have a thread about terrifying movies within a thread, how nice. Anyway, here's my entry:
The Excorcist III
The Entity
The Legend of Hell House
Stigmata (just for the possession parts, well done)

I watched 'A sense of Freedom' which is a biographical film based on the Jimmy Boyle book of the same name. Jimmy Boyle was a tough bugger Scottish thug/gangster who was imprisoned for murder(he claims he was innocent, but don't they all) Whilst doing bird he fights the system and spends most of his time in solitary and poking out the eyes of wardens. There’s plenty of violence and some lovely scenes for the scat lover and being a British film it's always overcast and raining! The only down side was that it focused on the violent early years and when he started changing his behaviour and writing his book it ended with a caption of a few sentences and words. The fact that he became an author, artist and a playwrite after his release interested me just as much as how he started out on the recidivist lifestyle.

Wedding Crashers is one of many, many, many 'comedies' that aren't really funny, just 'outrageous' to just the right point. Pretty boring stuff, though I liked the cut from a dip to a topless woman thrown on the bed in the early 'wedding season' montage. Taken, I think, from Dracula: Pages From a Virgin's Diary, but still cool.
I like that Mansley the accountant complains that the movie didn't deal with enough details in accounting.
I haven't seen 300, but if it's as faithful as it's supposed to be to the comic then the chest-thumping and racism predates the current war in Iraq. I'm not quite clear on how these people who want historical accuracy also believes that having Greeks refer to non-Greeks as 'Barbarians' is a modern interpolation. And Zack Snyder managing to use technology somebody else invented to do something that somebody else already did is not hugely impressive in itself. I'll be impressed if he pulls off Watchmen.

I saw Stranger Than Fiction today. Will Farrell was outstanding, and it was a very interesting plot. Recommended.

I like the Science Of Sleep as much as I like Bruschetta (mts doesn't know that word?) and that means I like it quite a bit. I watched the whole thing btw... that helped me like it.

I thought Wedding Crashers was a good balance as well. That red head was probably the most outrageous part of that movie... nuts.

My ex recently recommended me this movie. I downloaded, but haven't watch it since because at the time the thought of her watching it with another guy pissed me off. lol, I'll hopefully burn it off and see it soon.
I'm going to a movie with a young lady next weekend called "Fido". A Canadian zombie horror/comedy film, similar to Shaun of The Dead I'm thinking... Nothing says "First Date" like a zombie film.

I also liked The Science of Sleep. Not many directors get that feel so well as Gondry.
I don't think that Tideland and Brazil are in direct competition, or are even comparable. Unless I'm severely mistaken, and Tideland's little girl turned into a bureaucrat in a 1984-inspired dystopia. In any case, it's not as though Brazil is the best film Gilliam made, either.

Nevermind that dude; he's just copying and pasting review excerpts from a site that's been a heavy influence on how I watch movies. In general, if somebody's only posts are targeted quotations of a single member's posts in a single thread, you can just assume he's a troll.

Oh great, now it looks as if Í did that.
Well anyway: I have Apocalypse Now, Redux, but I only watch it if the mood is right, like I do with all things Vietnam. Even fucken videogames (motherfuckin' Vietcong baby!). Help me.
So in the meantime, I guess I'll watch Clerks or something ('finally').

Its funny how everyone around here says its amazing, blah blah blah...
I don't see why it would be good, looks like a typical hollywood action/over advertised flick.

Give an example of a 'twisted plot' and I'll give you some recommendations.
I'm pretty sure dude was accusing me of intellectual forgery of some sort.
Does anybody know how 300 got so hyped? I knew about it since around its first development, and it seems like it suddenly exploded for no good reason.
Just saw This So-Called Disaster, which is a documentary on Sam Shepard's staging of his play 'The Late Henry Moss.' Sam Shepard is so cool.

honestly i don't interact with enough people to get any other hype than shit like msn.com...but i would say 300 has so much hype because the previews are highly visually appealing. i'm not sure if the whole film is in the same style..i am guess it is, or most of it is..but its a very modern feel to a supposed historical/ancient story. someone that was involved did some homework for sure. regardless of the movie having substance or not..i haven't seen it myself, from the previews i can tell this would be the kind of film people would rather see on an imax screen. i'm drunk and stoned..but i'm pretty sure you have an idea of what i'm getting at.

Yeah, the previews won a hell of a lot of people over, espcially message-board geeks. There's even a "THIS IS SPARTAAAAA" meme.

Fuck Sparta! The best parts of 300 could have been edited into a 30 minute SciFi channel original feature ( which would have been very cool ), but instead it ended up wasting more than an hour of my life with a shit plot and atrocious script.
Who the fuck knows how the shit made it into theaters. Most of it was a Gladiator rip off B rate movie. Now there were parts that had unique moments and were good, but like I said. It could have been a 30 minute movie and been better.

If they sped the slow motion up to regular speed and cut out all the speeches that didn't matter, the movie would've been 20 minutes long.

Why don't we have LOTR-sized elephants or dudes with saws for arms anymore????
Oh wait, that's right! Because it's bullshit.
I couldn't stop laughing at this movie.

I guess 'This is SPARTAAAAAAA' can explain it, since there's no reason why it looking 'cool' should make it any more attractive than, say, Mirrormask, or even Sin City, the obvious model, which I don't think had quite this anticipation among non-comic readers.
Stranger Than Fiction's no good.

Just saw 300. The fight scenes are excellent, but everything else is pretty much crap. I know it's a comic book adaptation, but I couldn't help but be annoyed by the fantasy elements. The irritating and unnecessary narration pissed me off too, and ruined the atmosphere in quite a few parts of the film.
Nothing exceptinonal IMO. Just another slice of Hollywood battle-film pie.

Ok so the movie to me is pretty simple material but presented
in a fashion makes it seem like a nightmare
an unwanted family is a nightmare in itself but the haunting white noise
the appearance of his baby and the dancing angel are all tormenting him and are kind of exaggerations, or are they? is he crazy or is the movie an exaggerated argument for abortion, anyway, very haunting, terryfying, made me feel alone
which is an incredible feat for a director to pull of with such little area and dialogue. Also the actors showed tremendous emotion in their faces

Yeah, the recurring Scottish accent was pretty bad. Though it was kindly inconsistent.
And I now see why people complained about modern-day interpolations. All that stuff about how freedom isn't free wasn't in the comic. Actually, pretty much every time the filmmaker got to exercise his freedom at all, it was a bad decision. Miller's no genius, but they deviated from his script to the movie's detriment.

Has anyone seen Peter Jackson's Dead Alive? That movie fucking kicked ass. Think of Shawn of the Dead but 100X bloodier and way more kickass. Highly recommended. Try to get the unrated version if you can find it.

QUOTE FOR THE FUCKING TRUTH.
Daniel Day Lewis is a badass! This is my favorite movie of his.
Anyways, in the similar vain to Dead Alive :
(from amazon.com)
"
These are some of the funniest Horror films you'll ever see so sit back with friends or even alone and laugh yourself silly.
Dead Alive Created by master-filmmaker Peter Jackson, the headline says it all. "The Goriest Fright Film Of All Time." And that aint no lie. This is it, the goriest film you'll ever see that makes you laugh uncontrollably. You've seen his work in the Lord of the Rings. You know what he's capable of. This is his Horror Masterpiece.
The Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 - Book Of The Dead Collection This is a great DVD pack that features two of the best campy horror films. Thanks to the magic of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, its an unforgettable trip in the woods with Demons, possession, and a whole lot of laughter.
Basket Case (20th Anniversary Special Edition) An incredibly funny film that will leave your mouth wide open in awe. What's in the box? When you find out, you'll fall to the floor. This is a classic.
The Return of the Living Dead The director chose not to go down the same path George A. Romero did and decided instead to make a funny living dead film. The result was classic. Outstanding make-up effects, a killer soundtrack, and a female zombie who just can't keep her clothes on. It's one of the best.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space Thanks to the master craftsmanship of the Chiodo Bros., they have created some great looking 'Klowns' that will scare you and make you laugh continuously. I've seen this film over 10 times and it never gets old.
Bad Taste Before Peter Jackson made the Lord of the Rings and King Kong, he made Horror films! This is his first feature film that took almost the entire 80's decade to complete. But it's worth every minute. Gore, Aliens, flying houses, it's a shoe-string budget masterpiece. Look for 2 separate parts played by the Director himself.
Shaun of the Dead Now a cult phenomenon, there's not much that needs to be said. It's a great script with the perfect casting and knows when and when not to be serious. It's a quality film.
Troll/Troll 2 A movie starring...Harry Potter? Well, that's the lead character's name, and he is a young boy involved with magic. But it's not like the stories by J.K. Rowling. This is a unique adventure with great creature effects and an appearance by Sonny Bono who tries to mack it with all the ladies. Troll 2- Considered by many to be the worst movie ever made. And that's a good thing! Low-budget hilarity at its best.
Army of Darkness (Boomstick Edition) Bruce Campbell pushes the limits of his hero attitude and gets medieval on monsters and moving skeletons. Not as gruesome and horrific as the Evil Dead's, but a worthy follow-up adventure that shows why Bruce Campbell is king of the B-Movies.
Deranged/Motel Hell (Midnite Movies Double Feature) Motel Hell has some of the best quotes ever from really memorable characters. Any movie that has a showdown with chainsaws and pig masks is all right with me. Deranged is worth a watch too!
Critters Just a really fun movie that'll keep a smile on your face. Watch for the bowling scene.
Idle Hands A great undead adventure starring Seth Green. Definitely an underrated zombie/comedy flick.
Leprechaun Pot of Gore Collection (5 DVD Set) What's not funny about a wise-cracking Leprechaun that will kill for gold? It's great. All of them!
Shocker A Wes Craven 'shocker' that starts out serious but turns into a laughfest with lines that are over the top. Definitely fun.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Think House of 1000 Corpses meets Leatherface. About 99.9% less serious than the original, this is a jump in an entirely different direction. Dennis Hopper runs around in a cowboy hat screaming with chainsaws in each hand. Try not to associate it with the original, it's just a funny good time.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation Along the same lines of TCM 2, This is a completely funny rehashing of the original with 2 of the biggest stars today, Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger. They weren't as popular back then but their star power shines through. Very funny stuff.
Cabin Fever - Special Edition Director Eli Roth knows Horror movies. This is a bloody funny movie based on a true story in Eli's earlylife. Whether you love it or hate it, it's worth a watch.
Jack Frost No, its not the family film with Michael Keaton. Yes, it is about a killer snowman! It's hilarious.
"
Know any more? this might be my new favorite genre of movie.

haha...Jack Frost is equally as terrible.
Has anyone seen "Meet The Feebles"? It was another one of Peter Jackson's fims before his LOTR fame. I downloaded it a few years ago...it has a very bizarre premise...

All done with puppets.

With Heath Ledger? Yeah, seen it. The only bit I remember well was when he buried the money, but, as I remember it, that was done well.
Just re-watched Heaven. What an aptly titled movie. I was in a terrible mood and suddenly it seems manageable. That's a great film.

Yeah, get a design you have no personal meaning attached to permanently injected into your skin.

i agree with cannibal. its best to only get things that are personally significant. seeing something and wanting it is fine for some things..like cds or art works. you can sell or trade those once the novelty has worn away. just my two cents.

I think everyone already knows my opinion on this and it basically reflects this [RE when My Own Saviour was getting a tattoo]. I don't know anything about the design but its possibly one of the coolest designs I've ever seen. And as fasr as it meaning nothing, well I like big dogs, i've trained them since i was about 13 too. you'd be surprised how many people dont have the sense to train animals to do what they want.
but im not justifying the meaningless of the design to me [cos it really doesnt mean that much] but its probably THE only design that lacked any meaning that i have thought cool enough to ever put on my body.

Transformers looks like crap, and because it's by Michael Bay, will suck so badly you'll want to shoot yourself.
You forgot how 'good' The Wedding Singer is because it sucks; apparently you realized this the first time you saw it but have since been so dulled by crap that it actually seems good.

I've changed. I just can't stand horror/scary films anymore. I view a hillarious film like CKY (any of the 4), and a story with great storyline (Snatch, loved it again), and then I try to watch the Ring 2. I view half, and I can't bring myself to watching the other half, it's so fucking boring and I really don't give a fuck how it ends. I have The Grudge 2, and a couple of other shitty horror flicks and I can't be fucked watching them at all.

May not be your epic Lord Of The Rings type storyline but there were definantly interesting quirks to it. Such as how... eh I can't be fucked.

based loosely on the life of william randolph hearst, who was a media tycoon.
it was really good, im sure that there wasnt films like that made then. i notice alot of people say its overrated and on the surface its easy to agree.......but its an extremely dated film.
anyway, for anyone who cares to know, paramount is filming a movie in providence, or at least some scenes.......so i had the pleasure of seeing a film set in a local restaurant and got to check how the big studio do thier thing.
this had to be some sort of mafia movie, they had 5 or 6 trailers, the best gear humanly imaginable, catering, security. some of the extras and actors all looked like mob goons....and since providence is one of the last strongholds for this sort of thing..........i bet its some sapranos inspired bullshit.
one thing that caught my eye was a motorized cart....for filming.....its was thing steel, slicked out little thing that probably costs more than ill ever make.
i dont know where im going with this but i was impressed, i was gonna help myself to the food and coffee but there were cops closeby who looked like they helped themselves previously so i didnt want to invite trouble.
i had been an extra in a z-grade, low-budget, zombie movie that actually been released and that shit didnt even compare with the amount of gear, lighting and stuff these folks were hooking up.
