Moi aussi! Most of those stupid movies have minimal story and character development. That is why Zombieland stood out from the rest... stuff actually happened in it that I cared about.

I've been attempting to watch "Magnolia" just because I saw it was a Ghoulardi Production and, well, Ernie Anderson is still a Cleveland, Ohio, icon. This movie is Kill Bill weird and I can't quite figure out what the heck it's about if it's even about anything other than character study. Clue me in?
And if you're so inclined check out some old Ghoulardi clips on youtube. He was cool.

PT Anderson is from Cleveland and so named his production company after Ghoulardi; it has nothing to do with the man himself.
Magnolia's about the various connections between things, like the opening narration says. In this case, it's about the connection between two families with dying patriarchs and the various people affected by their lives. And some other stuff.

I kind of was getting that toward the end, but I wasn't sure if there was something I was missing woven into that, too. Thanks for the info.
According to wikipedia he's the son of Ernie Anderson so that explains the Ghoulardi reference.

spam is getting more and more discreet. Maybe that's the wrong word, but you are trying very hard.

Hahaha, what amazes me beyond its discreetness is the idea that there is anything to spam on this derelict board.

I watched the documentary Facing The Habit last night. I felt it was really well done and one of the few drug docs that focused more on the aspect of how strong addiction is and how bad one can want to escape from the addiction but still can't. Most docs seem to focus on the lifestyle of the user. This was more about users trying to quit, but how difficult it really is to not relapse months or even years after quitting use. I think this is important because most people have little or no understanding of the immense power of drug addiction and automatically label all addicts as scum who choose to be in that position, when the majority of the time it's not the case. Definitely worth checking out.

Me, wearing her peeled face with her severed tits stitched inside a bra and slung over my shoulders, sitting on her favourite dildo and pretending to be a Protestant. It's easy, I already hate Catholics anyway.

Lucky Charms? What's a racist American breakfast cereal got to do with anything? Goddamn racists! It wouldn't surprise me if you guys had a cereal which was chocolate covered and made the pure white milk turn brown as a warning to children about the dangers of multiculturalism and featured a monkey in urban clothing on the box holding a spoon in place of a TEC-9!
Oh...
Just watched In Bruges for the third time. I seem to enjoy it more with each viewing. What a rip off - I want my full enjoyments NOW Does anyone else think Ralph ( Rayf? What a cunt) Fiennes is an overrated hack?
The love interest in the film was perty. I want to cannibalise her so I can have her with me forever.

Of course, the flaw in that is that you'd shit out most of her within a day and then it'd just be whatever you've metabolized into your cells; but seeing as every molecule in your body get switched out over a seven-year period...
Nah, just take the corpse to a taxidermist, I think that's the way to go. That way, you could even have yourself a sort of assisted wank whenever you feel a little peckish.
A kind of an open question here, but I've only run into disappointments on this front lately - really good psychological horror? Basically, I like horror that actually manage to get through it all without boring jumpscares and gore thrown in the for the hell of it.

I doubt I'd ever shit again if I had her inside me. If I did it'd come out like a bronze Oscar.

I'd also like to find something along those lines, as long as by "psychological horror" we all understand that the following do NOT count:
* The main protagonist/antagonist is a schizophrenic and he/she's been terrorising him/herself all along.
* It's a dream.
* It's the dying fantasies of someone in a coma.
* He's a fucking ghost.
* It stars Leonardo Cage.
Have you seen Audition, Pats? It's not exactly frightening but it's quite enjoyable nonetheless.

I really liked this movie:
Altered States
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/
To be honest, the only thing that I can remember actually being scared of is Rosemary's Baby, the book by Ira Levin. The movie is considered to be one of the top psychological horror movies of all time by critics, but, man, that book is just awesome. Read it, then watch it.

That hack only gets work because he looks kinda like a Jew. At least Woody Allen is honest about it and wears his Jewishness on his sleeve as he damn well should, IF YOU GET MY MEANING.

I tried to watch Annie Hall the other week and got really fucking annoyed at his whiny jewish demeanor. Talk about a one trick pony.
Larry David is much more my style. New Curbs are hilarious.

Just saw through WKUK's Civil War on Drugs again... man I love that one. "So, all you do is smoke weed and follow fish around?"
I think my favorite scene is the one where they're sitting in the tea room; the just barely suppressed total mind shattering is fucking A.

Some concept art which was intended for use in the Hellraiser remake has been released:

I actually quite like the new Pinhead look, but the others look utterly pedestrian, like unused stock characters from Mortal Kombat II.

Luckily a guy infront of me fainted so I could help him and I didn't see the entire movie

Ha! I actually met the writer for Final Destination (1, 2, and 5.. I think, can't remember) randomly a few weeks ago. Never seen any of them.
Did the guy pass out because of the movie?

There are English subtitles throughout, even though everyone is already speaking English. I'm Irish and I don't even know what the fuck they're saying. It's like an entire community of alcoholic stroke victims trying to turn every sentence into a singsong.
It's a really interesting film though, and seems to be a representative microcosm of pointless conflict in general.

Hellraiser 9. Watched it. I have literally nothing to say, except for the following text-wall:
Actually, fuck it, I can't be arsed. It's hilarious, watch it for that reason.
Oh yeah, a lot of the film is based in Mexico, and all of the "Mexicans" are in fact Asians. Jesus Christ.

I'm scared to visit sites like that. Wanna give a bit more of a rundown as to why it's worth watching, despite everything?

Try one of these instead:
http://www.fileserve.com/file/HRaRn....AC3-YeFsTe.avi
http://rapidshare.com/files/3443912....AC3-YeFsTe.avi
If you imagine a parody movie where the actors are intentionally hamming it up for comic effect, and then imagine that the actors in question don't realise they're in a parody movie and have been cast by the studio out of sheer cruelty, you've got Hellraiser 9. It is definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen, there is nothing good about any of it. Even the gore - which might have made it worth watching despite everything else - is really low-rent and cheap. They didn't even bother using a second, skinnier actor to portray the skinless version of the primary actor, they just piled the latex onto the same actor and he gains about 2 inches of girth as a result regardless of the fact he's been skinned.
All of the Cenobites look like they're in a shitty commercial for a new line of Halloween costumes. Pinhead's actor is fucking awful; he looks retarded, sounds retarded and acts like a retard who's retarded. His attempt at a British accent and his delivery of his lines is so very, very bad that if you close your eyes you'd swear you were watching an episode of South Park in which Pinhead has a speaking role and is voiced by Matt Stone.
The vagrant who supplies the box to the two main characters is so funny that I had to pause the movie twice during his scenes because I was laughing too hard to see or hear what was going on.
The script - written by the guy who does the special effects (!!!) - is the worst I've ever encountered. I've heard more credible dialogue in Prisoner on Cell Block H, and I'm not even joking.
Just watch it. It has to be seen to be believed. There are budgetless fan movies on YouTube that are infinitely better, and that's saying something.
Having said all of that, I watched the movie right to the end, and I laughed my ass off throughout, so at least it's enjoyable on some perverted level. Hellworld, the previous Hellraiser in the series, was fucking awful too but it had the added problem of pissing me off and making me wish I was dead. Revelations just left me mildly dehydrated from the laughter-induced tears.

Turning to perhaps somewhat better quality, just saw the Silent Hill movie. Happened to zap past it right at the beginning and thought, well, what the hell. I've actually sort of avoided it on purpose; Silent Hill is pretty much the only franchise of any kind that I'm a serious fan of. Well, I've played SH 1, 2 and 3, plus Shattered Memories. To illustrate how far gone I am, I could name pretty much every song they used in the movie, and generally could tell you which game it's from.
I have mixed feelings about this movie. On the production and acting side, I think they did a pretty damn good job. On the story side... well, here I'm conflicted. On the one hand I do like the concept; how blind faith and the murderous lust for purity and piety in itself led to not only calling but creating the very evil they were so afraid of. But goddamn it, they really piled on stuff from the games. I'm surprised there weren't beetles, insignias and mannequins seeping out through cracks in the TV screen. And that leads to my main gripe - the fact that they just copied monsters right from the games. It demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the whole idea of Silent Hill and it's a big fucking herd of elephants in a very small room. Take Pyramid head, for example. He's a manifestation of James' guilt for killing his wife. And that's the thing. The evil of Silent Hill is like real life evil, in and by itself it's just a writhing, nebulous cauldron of possibilities and potentials. It's people that give it shape, it's people's own desires, lusts and guilt that make it come alive. They went some way with that, what with the incarnation of Alessa at the end and such, but it still bugs me six ways to Sunday.
Anyhows. /End rant.

Isn't Silent Hill the movie based on the years' long burning mine in Centralia, Pa.? I remember when Bob got the movie and we watched it together. We were glued to it. I thought it was really good. He said there was all sorts of weirded out stuff in the game at the time, too.

As for the reality background, I couldn't tell you. I'd say, anyone who hasn't played the games and doesn't ever expect to, watch it. On it's own, it's a well done movie. But I also honestly think they could have done much better story wise - though not even nearly as horrendous, they made the same mistake that pretty much every Silent Hill comic I've ever read also make. The founding idea of the horror in Silent Hill is that it's humans that make it become manifest, so in a sense you create your own nightmare and then anyone who happens to be around get to join in the fun. So, for example, Pyramid head simply felt wrong to me; he's a manifestation of James' psyche and even if James does exist in the movie's continuity, he's not there now. I almost wish they had botched in technically on the monsters so I could just have a good gripe about them and be done with it, but no. They did them, on the whole, very well, they just used them wrong.
However, Cybil was every bit as hot as I imagined her pixelated curves to be in the first version of the first game. That's a whole bucket of bonus points right there.

It was just a normal porno starring a German in a lab coat. And not a very good porno at that. I didn't even crack one off.
Today I downloaded, but have yet to watch, a documentary that may interest some of you. It's called Orzoco: The Embalmer. It was made in 2001, and is basically study of a Columbian named Orzoco who is not only an embalmer, but is a not particularly competent one. It contains extremely graphic footage of fresh corpses on the side of the road and how they're unceremoniously dismantled by Orzoco back at his "morgue" as he prepares them for their burial. I flicked through it a little to see just how graphic it is. It is. I shall report back with a sweet review and plenty of screenshots for anyone who's interested Or, if you fancy downloading it for yourself:
http://freakshare.com/files/rx46yxc...amador.avi.html [865 MB]
It's a fairly rare film, even rarer with English subtitles!
The West Memphis Three case is being made into a film called "The Devil's Knot". It will star Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth. I hope they don't shit all over it, but probably will. Paradise Lost 3 is out, and Peter Jackson and Amy Berg have their own documentary on the case doing the rounds at film festivals right now, "West of Memphis". I'm pretty excited to see the latter; Paradise Lost 3 was alright but it didn't really feel like I learnt anything new from it, although I'm pleased to see it's been nominated for an Oscar. West of Memphis blatantly builds a case against Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the victims of the murders, and contains material so new they had to re-edit the film days before the first official screening to include fresh interviews. In particular, interviews with friends of Hobbs' nephew who passed polygraph tests, swore under oath and wrote affidavits to support their claim that the nephew told them that Terry Hobbs killed the kids and considered it the "Hobbs family secret".

Hahaha I just got to the part with the baby. It's not from the woman's stomach, it arrived in a pink coffin as he was dissecting the woman and he had to quickly add some finishing touches to it (basically stuffing its nose and mouth with cotton).
I read that Orzoco wasn't a particularly competent embalmer, and this scene alone confirms it. When the baby first arrives he opens the coffin and this is what he says:
Screenshot 01 [ Contains an image of a dead baby in a coffin]
His ineptitude is staggering when you see how he services the baby. He places a towel over the open gut of the woman he had already been working on, places the baby on the towel and starts working on it like the woman is a flesh-coloured mortuary slab. The baby is in its funeral clothes - lovely bright pink cotton swaddling - and he just plops it back in the coffin when he's done hahahahaha. Look:
Screenshot 02 [ Contains an image of a dead baby and a dead naked woman]
The man doesn't seem like he's been on speaking terms with reality for quite some time.
By the way, I realised after downloading the film that it doesn't have any subtitles. The ones from the following website work perfectly, however:
http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/sub...embalsamador-en
EDIT:
Quite possibly the best face I've ever seen:
Safe!

This guy just walks up to the camera and stares into the lens haha. I wish I was his friend...

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is about the best food movie I've seen. If you can see it, do, and hope you're somewhere near a world-class sushi restaurant afterward (NYC folk, see it at the IFC and head to Ushiwakamaru after). He's everything I want to be when I grow up, except Japanese, and kinda a dick to his son.

I have to see this. Seriously this is like the first time in 2 years that I really really want to see a movie and would even pay for it.
Am I the only one who actually prefers vegetarian sushi over raw tuna and stuff?

Agreed. However, as much as I love Mr. Glass, it was a little over-saturated with him which just kind of made me think of Koyaanisqatsi.
I'm in awe of the man's work ethic and passion.
I went with the plans to get Sushi after but the desired location was closed, so I went to walk to another but walked 15 minutes in the wrong direction, then walked back to find out it was a revolving sushi bar (fuck that) so then my friend suggested a 'decent' sushi place that was 25 minutes away, though definitely open, so we went. It was just okay. It was like looking at porn for 2 hours and then having a mediocre climax.

I still need to check out Ushiwakamaru. I think I'd be hard pressed to not go to Sushi of Gari or Sushi Seki if I was in NYC. Haven't been blown away by other sushi places in New York (looking at you Blue Ribbon Sushi, Jewel Bako).
Movie looks great but I'd definitely be food frustrated after seeing it. Not to mention my wallet is cowering at the idea of going to Morimoto, the only world class sushi place in the Philly area, which by the way, is leagues better than the NY location.

Does anyone here read script books? I bought Boogie Nights for £0.25 from a book store that's closing down, thinking it was an actual book, but it's just the fuckin' script. As interested as I am in film I'm not so interested that I'm gonna read a script while I do my poops! So, the first person to PM me their deets will receive it in the mail for free!!! FREE!!!!!!! I'll inscribe it if you like, too!! For just £4.95!!!!!
It's a pretty small book, which is probably why I assumed it was a novel. The fact that I was buying about a dozen books at once for the same price and therefore not bothering to check anything too closely also exonerates me from any charges of being a fuckin' numpty. I thought script books were all huge floppy fuckers. That's, like, the law of the books or something!
Snowtown is fucking awesome. Bought it on Blu-ray and everything! I also got Bad Lieutenant on Blu-ray with all of those yummy extras on it including a frustrating but enjoyable commentary from Abel Ferrera. He's some sort of ex-junkie and he still talks like he's just about to catch a dragon. He starts telling you something really interesting, then just as he's about to tell you the important part he notices/remembers something else and then forgets what he was saying before. Out of 100 anecdotes I think he finished about 12.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnd I'm spent.

I'm glad I don't know anyone like that.
Chris, I like that idea. Not necessarily for the topic, but for other stuff.

If you want a real movie to watch, check any movie by Lars Von Trier! This guy is really tough. Don't start with Antichrist though, iyt's way too rough. Melancholia or Dogville are the best ones, or Dancer In The Dark

Anyone else excited for the movie based on Freddie Mecury's life? Katty Perry is probably going to play his girlfriend.

Any of you guys seen all the three Starship Troopers movies? S'funny, I always rather despised the first one. I've read Heinlein's book countless times, and to me it seemed like the movie not only missed more than one vital point of the story - everything in it is so godawful stupid I wanna hit myself in the head with a frying pan just to try and see if it'll restore a few burned braincells. Just take the main component of it all - Mobile Infantry soldier versus bug. In the book, the bugs are every bit as ferocious as in the movie. Thing is, every single soldier of the MI is an extremely well trained elite soldier, wearing a power armour equivalent of a modern tank battalion. In the movie... yeeeea, nuff said.
But, here's the funny thing. I've now seen all three movies back to back and I... kinda think they're pretty damn good, all in all. Thing is, Heinlein carried a lot of points in the mixture of satire and straight up action adventure. And when the movies finally get to go full circle with the sheer manic madness of perpetual war, gleeful propaganda and religious awakening - they do too. Sure, it's not the deepest thoughts and most clever execution, but taken all together I thought they brought the whole thing much farther than I'd ever expected.
So yea, anyone feel for a marathon of mixing thought provoking themes, entertaining human-on-slimy-hell-spawn-fighting and boobs (yes ladies, there's some nice abs for you, too) I'd say give 'em a try.

Here again, resurrecting this ole zombie. Looking for movie tips - fun stuff. Just entertaining movies you can kick back and relax to; Pirates of the Caribbean, The Avengers, the new Iron Man movies, stuff like that. Any takers?

Haven't really had too much time for movies as of late.
Loved Moonrise Kingdom and Jeff Who Lives at Home. Really want to see Basket Ball Dairy but Blockbuster doesn't have it :/
