Whammy Bar Techniques

So yea this is like my first guitar with a whammy bar. Im pretty noob at it. Can you guys explain to me how to use it properly. Like the thing called 'Divebombing' Thats what Petrucci does in the intro to Metropolis right?

possibly, but i dont listen to dream theater that much.
you just hold a note and "dive" the whammy bar slowly until you like it then let go. n.h. work well and if you like the dime style theres a vid on google that has him teaching how to do it

www.mrfastfingers.com is great for learning tricks with a T-bar... Jamming then use numbers '0-9'

How're you taking to playing with a new bridge and hand positioning etc? I had it from an early age in my guitarring lifespan, but I really don't like the feel of axes that don't have floating bridges now:/

I kinda like having some play in my whammy bar, but everyone is different. Have fun and be creative.

"Use your imagination. Use your whammy bar".

Just buzz your low E string and do some natural harmonics with the thing, that's all I can do with it right now. :P I'm dying to find out how that first riff in Morbid Angel's "Nothing is Not" is played.

Here's an easy one to practice. Open D, G, B, or E string artificial harmonic, slowly dive. Sounds cool huh? Speed and timing will come with practice. I suggest using it as an end note in an easy soloing scale such as the Em pentatonic.
