pickups are messing up

ok i bought a brand new dimarzio tone zone for the neck and a brand new dimarzio x2n for the bridge and when my friend put them in it sounded like shit. tonight i had someone else do it the right way (or so they said) and i plugged it in and got the most terrible twangy shit sound ive ever heard....theres barely any distortion and i cant get harmonics at all.....im using 500k pots like the diagram said....if anyone has any suggestions please help. by the way it sounds like this on every amp i played it through....so its not the amp

If youre not getting much gain, it sounds like a lead isnt connected. Id take it somewhere and get it put in, its definately not put in right. Make sure all of your leads are properly soldered in to their corect spot, and it its buzzing/popping, check your grounds.

I would recommend taking it to your local guitar store if your not familiar with soldering. If you are, and have the schematics, use a voltometer to check the voltage drops across. This should go in the gear section too.

your friends should never get into fixing guitars i guess...take it to a shop...

hehe actually yea... It just annoys me because when im in the guitar forum and i see something like that i think im in the gear forum and i get confused

Those guys might have not wired it right or burn one of the componants with the head from the iron. Find someone that actually knows how to work on electronics. They can tell you whats wrong in just a few minutes.
