Difficult E-Guitar - Easy E-Bass
I dont know wether I should put this in the guitar or the bass section, but well - here it is:
Where I live it is pretty hard to find a good bass-player. Now we got one, but he isnt as good as the guitarists in our band.
So, we write very hard guitar riffs and sometimes they are just so damn difficult that I got no idea what our bass-player could play.
Can you guys give my some hints, tricks or methods, what the bass player can play if the guitar players are jumping from fret to fret the whole time (very fast)?
you know...just damn hard guitar riffs...

Find out what the chords are and make the bass player work from the root of that chord.

Basically just tell that bass player to PRACTICE... its the only way he can develop his skill to keep up with your guitarists.. other wise hes just going to have to stick to the root notes..

bass players are too busy gettin laid and gettin paid to play shows they cant hang around on forums talking about their tone and how many songs they can play.
The dude needs practice or replacement, there's no reason you can't mirror "damn hard guitar riffs" on a bass guitar too

or he can groove with the roots ( throw in fifths and octaves), or just as you said, get the guy to step up his practice routine.

You sound pretty conceited. But if you can play them on bass and he can't for recordings at least why don't you play the bass on recordings until he is ready. Asides from that just make him practice.

Do one of these two things ...
1. Fire him and turn the bass knobs up on your amps
2. Fire him and replace him with a better bassist.

Quickly! You must disperse your band. You've been victim of BBS (Bad Bassist Syndrome) and there is no cure. It's almost like a curse, except you hack up phlegm all the time and reek of body oder constantly. Scientists are devoting much time and energy to develop a remedy. Until then there is nothing you can do. You're screwed. Fucked. Until the next millenium at least.
My sincerest apologies.
